Does anyone know of anyone who has already done this? If so did they run into alot of problems?? Any help would be much appreciated.... It's a tad beefier than the 282, has a pull type clutch, and repairs/mods are insane costly as well as parts. It's not a common tranny, but you can find them. I would personally suggest the 282 for obvious reasons. If you go ahead with the 284 swap, just find a junked out 5-speed z-34 or just about any 3.4 with a 5 speed. Take everything from the trans to the shifter and all things in between. I would suggest the same for the 282. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest TurboSedan Posted October 1, 2003 Report Share Posted October 1, 2003 VERY do-able, the DOHC/Getrag (282 or 284) will fit fine. you'll actually have more clearance with the 5-speed since they are smaller than the auto trannies are. at least my 282 was much smaller and a helluva lot lighter than my original 4T60. your BIG problem will be mounting the clutch pedal. i believe the dash changed in '94 and there was no provision for the clutch pedal mount. bummer but it can be done. i believe someone on this forum swapped a Getrag 284 5-speed into his later model ('94+....forgot which car he had :? ) hth somewhat anyway joshua Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
