3.4L EGR Tube

How can you tell if the EGR tube has split if it has the heat shield on it? I looked at the outside of the shield and it is still silver looking except for 2 hot spots. Does this indicate a split tube? If so, how do you replace it?

Thanks

the manifold fitting will probally be a bitch so try spraying it with pb blaster or something and let it soak. the other end will be attached to the egr valve flange with the same two 10mm headed bolts that hold the egr valve to the intake. you can take loose the dog bones and rock the engine forward a little to make the manifold fitting easier to get to.
