So my best friend's boyfriend has a 97 Regal LS (newer gen style) that needed some brake work, so I offered to show him how to do the brakes. We got the new rotors and pads on, but now there's a groaning noise when applying the brakes very lightly. It seems like when you turn the wheel left or you're taking a turn it is noticable, and the opposite when you're turning the wheel right. I told him that it could be the front passenger wheel hub assembly, but it doesn't make the groaning when going freely (no braking). Has anyone had this problem before, and any thoughts or suggestions? The car has 135k miles and doesn't look like its had any front end work done to it yet if that makes a difference. The car was also not making this noise before we replaced the pads and rotors, but the front brakes didn't look like they were getting as much wear as the rear, nor was there air in the rear lines as there was in the fronts.

did you clean the rotor with brake clean before the install? Some of the new rotors have a preserving glaze on them. Did you install new hardware? Perform the proper breakin for the pads? How bad were the pads wore down, sometimes the calipers may decide to stick and drag while driving, after new pads. My sister had a 2000 Regal LS and a rear caliper decided to drag after a pad install. It ended up burning up the friggin brake pads and got pretty damn hot! If you have rear discs, check your parking brake shoes. Maybe they are dragging slightly. Check your front tierods and torque specs on wheels if they are aluminum wheels.

Yes, cleaned all the rotors with cleaner, pushed back the calipers with a c-clamp. The pads had less than half life to them before I replaced them. I also replaced the tie rods, and torqued the wheels to the correct specs. There weren't any notable signs that the pads were burning or getting hotter (rotors weren't black from the pads or anything, but I'm not sure what else to look for with a hung up caliper).

If you can't find anything wrong with the braking system, try to see if there is play in that wheel hub assembly. Might be the culprit:thumbsup:
