visitor Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 Quick question- I have a 1993 grand prix ste, it has the steering wheel controls, and it just seems so.. dated. question I have is- if i pull a column out of a newer 4 door gp (94-96 ish) can I bolt it right up? I do not care if the airbag works, so thats not an issue.. Only thing im thinking about is the multifunction switch, etc.. How hard is this? Quote
AL Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 I dont think its been tried... I am sure the mounts are the same tho Quote
visitor Posted July 2, 2010 Author Report Posted July 2, 2010 Ya physical mounting doesnt seem too bad, main worry is the wiring. Quote
Crazy K Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 the physical mounting is different. the upper holes will not line up. TIP: look at the other 3 model lines of 88-93 w-cars. notice they all have the multifunction switch? You could adapt one of those as long as you are also willing to route all the wires necessary. Q-Ball Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 What do people do when they do a complete updated interior swap? I ask, because this is on my list to do sometime in the next 5 years lol. Quote
Jonpro03 Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 I would assume it would be easier to swap the steering wheel instead... just no swrc Quote
AL Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 What about replacing your steering wheel with one that doesn't have swrc... But yet is from an 88 to 93 Quote

Crazy K Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 how about a wheel from a different model of car? maybe a 90 firebird wheel? wait... these cars are dated, anyhow.... FAIL! Quote
no1kicker Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 Why not just putting a newer steering wheel on, not the whole column. Quote
gpchris Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 Theyre right the newer columns will not bolt up to the MAG bracket. Which is why i had to drill and tab holes for my column when i did my 5speed swap. Quote

No argument there. however that doesnt mean that you cant make an effort to make it look more appealing to your eye.. Quote
visitor Posted July 4, 2010 Author Report Posted July 4, 2010 Why not just putting a newer steering wheel on, not the whole column. im going to try this. hoping the wheels mount the same.. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 IMO, the 89-93 SWC steering wheels may look dated, but they are at least retro-modern and unique. 94-96 steering wheels look dated with their bloated oversized airbags and just plain, boring, and cheap. Maybe I am just extra geeky, but I think backlit buttons looks way more cool than a large expanse of bulging vinyl. Quote

I am actually looking into an 04+ steering wheel. Need to find out if it mounts the same. Quote
rockfangd Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 I say put a Cadillac wheel on it and be done with it. I love my swrc, behind the wheel lol it would make the car worth more. (part cadillac) Quote
