Breakdown
Just wondering about some opinions. It's happened twice or three times in the last 15,000km. Scenario, and each of these has to happen, will not duplicate without them: -Air Conditioning on. -Hard lane change, meaning body lean, and then back -Very hard exceleration I think it's going from 1st to 2nd it just misses and revs without doing anything and then catches up, doesn't smell too hot. I had this problem with AJAM and it was the tranny fluid sloshing around, tranny shop told me that GM sent out a service note to overfill (slightly not exaggerated) the transmission fluid. I can't reproduce this issue without the A/C on. I can't reproduce this issue in a straight line. I'm kind of in denial right now, I don't really take it easy on AMY, I'm a mellow driver when I have company (someone riding shotgun), but otherwise I'm pretty aggressive, this past Friday's drive into work was NOT one for the environmentalists! Thoughts? I really don't want anything bad to happen to lil' Amy, and at the same time, I do need a reliable car for A-B for work. Last slip was May 28th, and I proceeded to drive another 250km that night no problem continually afterwards.
Addicted to eaton
this used to happen in my 95... never could find out why, Transmission was rebuilt too. id say stop doing that shit!
RobertISaar
aggressive driving is never good for a transmission...

RobertISaar
Oh don't even try to talk him out of it. We all do it. while i will not debate this fact, abuse is abuse.... and GM auto transaxles suck for durability.

Breakdown
It's kind of hard to avoid this. I guess wait in traffic, but the scenario that presents itself is that your lane is going 10MPH and the one beside you is going 45 MPH, there's a gap, and you want out of your non-sense lane. 1990lumina
My Lumina slips when going around turns and stepping on the gas after. I also shift it into second manually and it'll hold the gear and won't slip lol.
xtremerevolution
I presume there's a transmission cooler? What are the transmission temps while this is happening?
Galaxie500XL
I'm inclined to agree, but some others are worse. You know it's bad when you're trying to sell a '94 LeBaron convertible, and the FIRST question every potential buyer asked was "how's the transmission"? I lived in fear of transmission failure in that thing with NORMAL driving.
RobertISaar
you know how much fluid the average chrysler transaxle holds? it's scary....
slick
It's been recommended by persons that do track racing and auto-x'ing to overfill an auto trans by about 1/2 quart. That amount is enough to cover the slosh that happens during heavy acceleration/deceleration or turning.
RobertISaar
i've actually gone a full quart over on the GP... no foaming or loss of fluid yet.
Garrett Powered
just make sure you get the right place to do the fluid change. use the snap on machine that uses your tranny's pump to flush. and of course change the filter first. I wouldn't worry about an occasional slip. the widow would slip on HARD lefts only on this one corner I took. I just kept it a pint over and avoided doing that. AWeb80
my GP's trans would slip/drop out of gear on hard left hand turns in second gear. now that I rebuilt it, I can't get it to do it. I also suggest at least 1/2 a quart over fill. and a trans cooler....and Dex 6.
Breakdown
I presume there's a transmission cooler? What are the transmission temps while this is happening? I may be wrong, but I think that this only comes with the cars with the towing package here so I'm 95% sure that there is NOT a transmission cooler. It just doesn't feel as if the there's a problem. Hard shifts 99.99% of them seem to be like a knife running through hot butter. I gotta get my engine temps down though. I appreciate some of the feedback. A few years back I had a transmission shop look at AJAM's fluids and he topped it up for $5. It's worth the five to me since I'm not positive as to what's overfull for my car, and they're experienced. I think that the transmission fluid has been flushed in the last 60,000km on AMY, I'm going to have to run through my records and make sure that wasn't AJAM though.
