Galaxie500XL
I'm not sure, but mine is probably one of the cheapest exhaust mods you can do. Cherry Bomb glasspacks are the same or cheaper than stockers. The only problem is that they need welded, which I had done when my car went for inspection. Other than that my exhaust is completely stock. I still have the stock cat, pipe, etc. On my old '64 Galaxie, I had glasspacks, but they were turned around backwards, which pointed the louvers inside the wrong direction. At idle and light throttle, it was only slightly louder. At WOT, the exhaust was moving too quickly for the louvers to catch much of the flow, they acted almost like straight pipes...VERY noticeable, even my wife liked the sound. A side benefit was they didn't burn out nearly as quickly.
bronze93
I guess it would be a metal donut. It is the seal between the exhaust manifold and the pipe going to the catalytic converter. My exhaust was loud at that location is it possible that the seal isn't there. The piece I was trying to remove last night was what appears to be solid metal and I couldn't do much with it. bronze93
I found any image of a 3.1L manifold which should be similar to a 3.4L for what I'm doing. The piece I'm replacing is #2 which slides over #1. How do I get the old one off the manifold? Thanks
Crazy K
you may need to pry it off with a flathead screwdriver.
jtwmechanic
those manifolds on the 3xxx motors at least around here are notorious for cracking between the o2 and egr tube. make sure that is not your problem. very rare that those donuts leak as they are nearly bullet proof unless you f'd it up somehow. bronze93
Alright I'm beat. I got the new exhaust on from the manifold back and I still have a leak. How can I find it? Is it the manifold to engine gasket? Crossover tube gasket? EGR tube? I just don't know. Any help is appreciated, Mike
jtwmechanic
read my previous post plus i have seen on occasion where the egr tube has split inside the heat sheild and caused a leak.
bronze93
How can I check the EGR tube for a split with the heat shield on it? Is it possible?
