Spectrum Posted June 11, 2010 Report Posted June 11, 2010 So my car has never been clay barred, my my knowledge, and definitely not in the 4 years I've had it. I'm wondering if I can clay bar the car if I already have some wax on it. Or should I wash with dish soap to strip the wax before I claybar? Thanks in advance. Quote
slick Posted June 11, 2010 Report Posted June 11, 2010 Wouldn't hurt to strip the wax beforehand. Then claybar, then wash again (not with detergent). Then go to town with a wax job. Quote
Euro Posted June 11, 2010 Report Posted June 11, 2010 Depending on how long ago/what wax you used, yeah a dish soap wash beforehand couldn't hurt. Carnauba waxes usually only last 6-8 months, so if you haven't waxed the car in that time period than most, or all, of the wax should be gone. But if you used a synthetic paint sealant, it lasts longer than carnauba. Claybar can also take the wax off as well. But I don't think it's as consistent as a good ol' dish soap wash. Quote
Spectrum Posted June 11, 2010 Author Report Posted June 11, 2010 I've got your run off the mill Turtle Wax on the car right now, probably 2 months old. Water still beads, so I'll just strip the wax and go from there. Thanks guys. Quote
xtremerevolution Posted June 11, 2010 Report Posted June 11, 2010 Is there a purpose for keeping a layer of wax on your car that I don't know about? Quote
