BuickMan
for some reason the car wouldn't start in a store parking lot. I waited 15 minutes for it to cool down and it started normally. anyway to troubleshoot this? car isn't overheating and the battery is new. Is the starter about to go bad? bad ignition switch? Addicted to eaton
does it crank and not start? Or does it not crank at all. If it doesnt crank. I would say bye bye to that starter
BuickMan
I turn the key and nothing happens. It happened again today. It only happens when the engine is at operating temperature. when the engine is cold it starts right up. I thought when starters are bad they just die and don't have an intermittent period before death

slick
Heat soaked starter. Replace it.
BuickMan
found out it was a bad catalytic converter when I failed the smog test. replaced it and the starter problem stopped. the exhaust heat from the bad converter must have been affecting the starter. BuickMan
how does a cat at least two feet away and on the opposite side of the motor effect a starter? you tell me. all I know is the starter heat soak problem is gone. I told the mechanic about it beforehand. I don't think he gave me a free starter
