Firen81
My friend has a 1998 TA that has the deck out of a 2001 TA, and it has both the E23 code, and the E22 code. has anyone been able to fix these? i know some sites online have repair services, but i wonder if you can do it yourself. I'm mechanically gifted with electronics (with disk drives anyway) but I was wondering if someone else has miraculously poked a wire or connector and made it work again. If no one has, I'll see about fixing it, and maybe posting a how too on fixing them?
RareGMFan
If it was just the E23 code, I'd ask what kind of CDs he's using. I know I've never had a problem with any stock CD player reading burned CDs till I tried playing some cheapo GQ CDs. About 80% of the time, it would not be able to read them, and spit them back out. Once every great while (often after several tries on the same CD), one would work. But since he's also getting the E22 code, which means the CD motor itself is shot, I'm sure that's why it's not reading the CDs. The only "fix" for this is to replace the CD mechanism. I know you used to be able to buy the mechanism yourself for around $80-ish, but I don't know if that's still available anymore or not. If it is, you can save yourself some coin by installing the motor yourself (since you said you're electronically inclined) rather than sending it out to have serviced, which usually runs a minimum of $150. Otherwise, I'd try to pick up another working unit cheap.
