L27 roller rockers on an L67

This is a long shot, but I'd like to get some information from some knowledgeable people. Is it at all possible for me to use my L27 1.8 ratio roller rockers on an L67? They're 5/16" studs, and that's about all I know. What studs do the L67's use?

I'm for sure not an expert, but I don't see why you couldn't. Unless there's a major difference in design between the NA rockers and SC rockers. Then again, SI rockers may be different than SII rockers...

Ok I'll stop and let a pro chime in.

EDIT - I don't think it will work. Yella Terra is one of the few companies that makes rockers for the SI 3800, and they list the 5/16 pedestal mount rockers as a #6659 for the 1.8's and the SII 5/16 pedestal mount rockers are a #6625 for the 1.8's. I'd guess you're SOL on swapping.

The difference between the pedestal mounts, which I did check and have details on gmforum.com for, is 2.2mm in height. That's something I can either solve with the use of shims, or **maybe** ignore since the hydraulic lifter would pick up that slack easily. My sister in law has a 96 Regal so I might pull the front valve cover off and see how they fit.

The bigger question is whether or not the roller will be centered on the valve at its highest and lowest point to prevent side loads to the valve guides and wear them prematurely. Then gain, its not like non-roller tip stock rockers don't cause side loads either. I just need to verify that geometry first. Distance from center of fulcrum to pushrod and to valve.

Yea the best thing you could do is just get one of each side by side and break out the caliper and measure. I'd be worried about geometry also, being as GM made significant changes to both the bottom and the top end of the 3800 series between generations.

Well, the biggest things to be worried about are where the roller tip touches the valve at the highest and lowest point, and the height from the base. There's some wiggle room for that pushrod. I'll let you all know how it goes. I paid $350 for these rockers, and they're now up to $370, and it would be awesome to be able to swap them over to the L67.

not gunna work...

go on zzp performance, they list only 1 set of rockers for the series I.... they arent even really close in terms of engines, like u cant put an l67 top end on an l27

Kuntzie,

I'm well aware, but you CAN put a top end from an L67 to an L27. Do a search here for S1/S2 hybrid. You'll find a guy who fit S2 heads on an L27 bottom end, and he stopped with trying to make a LIM and get a custom cam made. However, it is possible, because with the exception of the 1" difference in deck height, the short blocks are identical.

I've done more than my fair share of research on this.

I know ZZP only lists one for the S1 and others for the S2, and I did buy mine from ZZP knowing that. I'm just trying to figure out if there's a way to make them fit. If the distance from pushrod tip and valve tip to the fulcrum center are the same between both rockers, all I should really need is to worry about the height of the fulcrum and the pushrod length, both of which are cheaper than a used set of S2 rockers, and I'm going to have a hard time selling the S1 rockers.
