jtwmechanic
i am almost ready to install this LNJ 3400 from an Equinox. everything is swapped and ready except for the crankshaft sensor. i guess gm decided to chang to a 3 wire sensor. does anyone know why and or how to wire it to the 2 wire set up i have. the sensors will not enterchange no matter what year. wiring is the only alternative unless there is a better idea. BXX
Shit, dont you need a cranktrigger kit like what you have to do with a LX9 3500 swap???
alec_b
I believe the crank trigger kit is required, as the newer 3400 will have the crank pickup built as part of the crankshaft, whereas the earlier 31xx engines used an external, balancer mounted crank pickup. I THINK that's right, but don't quote me.
jtwmechanic
anyone know where to get one? i already swapped the front cover and balancer and put the crank trigger on the front of the block. what info does the one in the block send to the pcm and can it be tricked somehow? jtwmechanic
definately would solve the problem for 155.00. is there not a way to utilize the existing 3 wire sensor to do the same job?
BXX
No, the resolution is much different. Â Ill have to dig into this more later..
jtwmechanic
this will end up being a great replacement motor for ealier built gm's if it can be done without the trigger kit! there are already alot of cheap low milage motors like this out there. the one i got has about 17,000 on it and was like brand new on the inside. i lucked out and ended up with this one from a friend for free. the swap also forces you to replace the lim gaskets since they are different which is a good thing! jtwmechanic
ok, i just went ahead and ordered the damn trigger kit from BCC, problem solved for me but would still be nice to get around this somehow in the future. cost 155.00 even, shipped to my front door also does 3500, 3900 vvt ect. engines so if decide later to do the 3900 swap i'll be a step ahead. BXX
Just looked at it, there is no way to trigger you stock ICM with the LNJ's Cam/Crank sensors... Our stock ICM gets the base signal from our rear block mounted 2wire crank sensor, the LNJ's ICM gets the signals straight from the PCM that the PCM sends out based on what is sees with the crank/cam signals
jtwmechanic
in other words i did the right thing by getting the kit.
