Chip
I am getting an intermittant egr P0401 code on my 96 3.1 regal. I am noticing a slightly rough idle at times, and at others, smooth as can be. Is it worth just replacing the whole egr, or could the intake inlet be carboned up? Should I pull the upper intake first before spending $160.00 - $190.00 on new egr unit? Any insight from your experiences would be great. Thanks

Chip
Great great clip. Thanks a million. Will try it next weekend. BTW - Vehicle has 187,600, so I'm sure its due for some cleaning.
WhatTheFehl
No problem Be forewarned though, what they don't show you in the video is that the lower throttle body bolt is a PITA to get to because a coolant pipe runs right in front of it. It's not horrible, but it will take you a little time to get it off. And one more thing, make sure you get a new throttle body gasket before you attempt to do this. Mine completely disintegrated when I took the throttle body off (into like 6 or 7 pieces) so you chances are you won't be able to reuse it. You were spot on in saying that the lower TB bolt is a biotch! With the pressure the coolant tube was putting on it, I actually began to crossthread the lower bolt on reinstall. Luckily, the trusty metric tap set cleaned things up. I had that nub of carbon on the egr port and got it all cleaned out. Thanks again
