Penglii
they leak from the plug usually. Interesting... I'm pretty sure mine is not leaking from the plug. It's not the main leak point anyway. Based on where I felt oil with my fingers, it's either coming from the threads or where the metal head meets the plastic body. Assuming it's not raining this evening, I'll know in a few hours what the story is.
Penglii
It's too cold and drizzly to change out this sensor today. Such is life. I guess I'll just watch Akira on blu-ray instead.
Penglii
May has officially been crazy-go-nuts... aproximately zero time to put any useful time into car stuffs. After Memorial Day things should start to get better. My current goal is to get this car drivable no later than mid-july... I think that will be doable... assuming I haven't just jinxed myself. Anyway, I finally got a useable windows laptop to use for datalogging and stuff. Grabbed a Dell Mini 1012 off of Ebay... also grabbed some ram to max it out to 2GB and a High Def (1366x768) matte screen. Running Windows 7 professional... all in all I'm impressed at the ability for a 10" netbook. The HD screen really makes a huge difference!! I am hoping to get that oil pressure sensor finally changed out today... I've really been procrastinating on that... I really hope I can find a viable way to reach it this time without having to remove the lower rad hose again.
redgrandprix
Awesome!! Valance!!!! FTMFW!!!!! I see the passenger side door molding has been replaced since it has a different shade of red.. I have a extra red emblem i can spare to sell if you want to replace your missing one.. Also IMO ditch the spolier.. Get another red spoilerless trunk lid and put it on.. TGP's just have there own look being spoilerless, no miniquads, and valance's... i like the look of spoilers but not that spoiler, mine has extensions on the ends so its as wide as the car not just the trunk lid
Penglii
Tore the underhood liner off today... and clipped in my shiney new vac line clip Thought some more about how I can reach the oil pressure sensor from the top without pulling the radiator hose off again. (Although I can technically do it from underneath, I'd really really rather not lay in oily dirt if I can avoid it... also... long arms make for very difficult movements from below) I'm thinking that if I take the passenger side dogbone off... and remove the dogbone mount, and remove the giant radiator fan... then I should be able to get a wrench down there AND be able to turn it. I also ordered a pedal pusher tool so that I can finally just bleed the PMIII all by myself... since apparently it's been about a year and I've been unable to sucessfully get someone to assist me. Penglii
Just made an antenna delete out of hardware store parts. Used a grommet from a GP OEM power antenna, a 3/8 Black Colored Hex Head Flange Bolt, a rubbery-nylon washer, a rubber grommet, a couple of steel washers, and a 3/8 nut. Looks just about like it's supposed to be that way... and it should do a great job keeping water out of the trunk. WAY better looking than the crappy walmart antenna I was using... looks almost as good as the OEM power antenna does when it's down. Anybody recommend any good hidden antennas? Penglii
Alright... after the disaster that was last weekend, I am giving this "finish up the TGP" thing another go this weekend. I'm just about ready to replace the busted Oil Filter Adapter. Got the OFA Nunzi sent me yesterday, so I'm all set there. Got another new oil pressure sender and the paper OFA Gasket, so I'm all set there too. Got a new O-Ring for the center bolt (Delco#14033233) coming to me via mail, should be here Fri or Sat. So I just got one thing left to address... the square cut gasket on the oil cooler (Delco#24504005) which appears to be a discontinued part that is out of stock everywhere. What are the odds that I'll be OK re-using the original one? Or would it be worth it to get a Motorcraft FL-1A gasket and trim it to fit? Or.... anyone have a good third option that does not involve luck or razor blades?
Garrett Powered
there is a round one available. its not the same exact as the stock one but works. just buy a roll of gasket paper. good to have around anyway.

Do you have a part number? I'm not sure gasket paper is a good substitute for a square cut nitrile gasket.... but I'll grab a roll one of these days anyway, I'm sure it will come in handy eventually. After getting jerked around by my local GM dealer I picked up a Motorcraft LF-1A for it's gasket, so if I need to I can trim it down to size and use it as suggested here: http://www.w-body.com/showthread.php/46470-Oil-Cooler-Gasket-Part-Number?p=916619&viewfull=1#post916619
Garrett Powered
no sorry. call some local parts stores? I think I remember just using a thin paper one. you may be right, my car has a couple leaks because it has a brand new engine, so we are needing to go around and re-torque stuff. its an ongoing process. how did your's break?
Garrett Powered
never mind. I see the gasket you are talking about. never had a problem with that one. I thought you were talking about on the block-to-adapter surface. duh
Penglii
how did your's break? I don't actually know how I managed to break the oil filter adapter... I just know it happened. Maybe it happened when I removed the original oil pressure sender, maybe it broke when I installed the replacement... even though I was careful and trying to undertorque it if anything since I was (ironically) worried about destroying the fitting. I will most definitely be installing the new pressure sender by hand while the OFA is out of the car. never mind. I see the gasket you are talking about. never had a problem with that one. I thought you were talking about on the block-to-adapter surface. duh LOL the block-to-adapter gasket is available everywhere. I don't actually know whether or not I can reuse the original oil cooler gasket... but to be on the safe side, and in the interest of time, I'm planning on replacing every seal in the oil filter/cooler system
Penglii
Holy balls... the paper gasket that goes between the OFA and the block just will not break loose! Gah!!! I just sprayed the crap out of it with PB Blaster... hopefully some of that seeps in there and breaks the bond. Update: Just got the broken OFA off.. had to resort to using a small prybar on the arm the pressure sender goes into. Sprayed a bunch more PB blaster on the gasket chunks that are still stuck to the block, gonna let it sit for an hour and try to scrape the old gasket off. OMG it is hot outside. Penglii
Time for a fun game of "well there's your problem..." Here's a pic of my broken OFA, now that it's off the car.
Penglii
Well... got the car all buttoned back up. Took 7 tries and 2 paper OFA gakets before I got the oil filter stack to stay put. It's too dark outside to start the car and check for leaks, so I'll be doing that after work tomorrow. I really hope the oil filter stack is leak-free. The only gasket I was able replace outright was the paper OFA gasket. I ordered what was alledgedly a replacement o-ring for the filter stack bolt.... but it turned out to be a set of 2 shitty thin black o-rings. The diameter of the rings was fine, but they were way too thin, even 2 of them did not provide any resistance at all when inserting into the stack. Plus one of them incurred a gouge during the install. I did everything I could to clean up and rejuvinate the original o-ring, so hopefully that's OK, the OEM o-ring looks pretty resilient. I tried to cut a new oil cooler o-ring out of a Motorcraft FL-1A, but it turns out I really really suck at that... so I yet again did what I could to rejuvenate the original o-ring. I'll find out tomorrow how well I did. If that goes well I can bleed the brakes and start driving the car again.
Penglii
Ran the engine for a few minutes and nothing leaked! The oil pressure gauge even finally gave it's first ever believable reading since I've owned the car. That means it is time for dinner... and a celebratory drink or something... then maybe some datalogging. Then tomorrow (or as soon as I can find the time to do it) I bleed the PMIII and with a modicum of luck the TGP can finally lose it's 'Lawn Ornament' status. Penglii
Did a little datalogging. Just let the engine idle until she was warmed up, and goosed the throttle a little bit before shutting her down. Looks OK at first glance. http://www.smallfiles.org/download/976/June_25_test.xdl.html One small drop on my test cardboard when I checked after I shut her down... but location and a closer look indicate it's mostly PB blaster overspray that collected and dripped. Nothing I'm concerned about. Looks like getting the brakes working again and test driving the car is up next on the to-do list
Penglii
Finally got al the wasps removed from the car! HOORAY!!! OMG I need to wash the car so bad now... I also installed a mount for my netbook. I got the top off of ebay and the rest is made of plumbing stuff from the hardware store. Bolted it onto the passenger seat bolt... seems very sturdy. Holds the laptop in just the right spot for my liking, and it sits low enough that it is very inconspicuous. Only problem is that nobody can sit in the passenger seat if I am using the mount... that's not a big deal though. Utilized a pipe union as a quick release so that I can quickly remove/attach the top half. The tubing prevents the seat from sliding very far forwards... even with the top removed the options are basically "all the way back" or "most of the way back"... but I don't care. If I cared this could be fixed by putting the pipe union at the base instead of in the middle... but I don't care. Now for some pics... Garrett Powered
wow. I might have to steal that idea.
Penglii
Go right ahead I did not come up with the idea. http://www.mobilelaptopmount.com/placeorder.htm This is the top I got, it fits a 10" netbook perfectly. It came with some fittings, but most of what I used I got for a few bucks at a hardware store. They are just 1/2" steel plumbing pieces. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NETBOOK-LAPTOP-MOUNT-ACER-ASUS-DELL-HP-SAMSUNG-SONY-/150359248552?pt=Computer_Stands_Holders_Car_Mounts&hash=item23021c0ea8
Garrett Powered
just got one. I think I am going to go order a laptop charger for the car too. unless I can charge it through a usb cord?
Penglii
I highly doubt a netbook can be charged via usb... I have a car charger for mine. Edit: Also, where would the USB get it's power from? Edited July 12, 2012 by Penglii
RobertISaar
there are some decent DC to DC chargers out there to charge a laptop, instead of using an inverter, changing DC to AC, having the power supply convert to DC. i run a 150 watt continuous inverter, but i'm too cheap to buy a DC to DC unit.
Penglii
An inverter is sortof overkill though for JUST a laptop I think... but perhaps a good inverter is a handy thing to have available.
