99screaminregal
Ok, got everything tore down, cracked the old seal out and now trying to put it back together. Having trouble sliding the o-ring over the dummy plug. Ready CrazyK's write up as to how to do it and having trouble. Any ideas??
Octavarium454
I've always used a distributor gasket and a bunch of RTV if someone wants a cheap fix for the problem. I myself though prefer to do it right the first time. If it helps though, I would try soaking the o-ring in some hot water to make it stretch farther. ss427
x2 on getting it warm to soften it a little bit. It will definitely stretch over it though.
Crazy K
did you notice that I greased it like a mofo and used two wires to guide and stretch it over the plug? takes a few tries. are you using a brown silicone ring?

Yup, got it on after a few. now, all is back together and smoking from the flanges. Couldn't find torque spec in haines manual (of course, damn thing never tells ya a thing). Anyone know what the crossover flanges need to be torqued at????

99screaminregal
OKAY, job is done but gotta smoking problem. Changed the oil after all was said and done. Torqued all of the crossover nuts to spec. Fired it up and a few seconds later, smoke from the flanges, a lot of smoke. Talked to a couple of guy in the chat room and they said I had some oil on/ in the crossover and it would burn off. I did soak the flanges in PB Blaster (penetrating oil), so I figured that was it. Took it for a ride to burn it off. Got home and it was not any better. Smells like the fresh oil I just put in. Could it possibly be a bad valve/s or cylinder?? Seems to be coming from the front bank. Not as much smoke coming from the rear of the crossover but, there is some.
White93z34
do you hear an exhaust leak? if not it probably will smoke for awhile before it all burns off.
99screaminregal
Nope, no leak. Stopped by the shop that does all the bigger jobs on it and they said the same. Been driving it all day and no smoke. Just needed to burn off.
