My LQ1 is are dying!!131!%$&!!!

Night Fury

I'll let the videos speak for themselves, but the timeline has been about like this.

When I got it the idle was just a little high. Would idle at about 1500 or so. Slowly but surely the idle has been getting higher and higher. For a while it was idling at 2000 when warm, and if you sit for a minute the idle would jump up about 200 rpm and the SES light would come on. But as soon as you bliped the gas it went back 'down' and ses light would turn back off.

That stopped happening when the idle got higher. Night before last it was the worst, it was IDLING just over 4000 rpm. I took it to KC yesterday(about 3 hours of driving total) and on the way home it would jerk and buck like it was out of gas (but had just put $30 into it)when driving over bumps or hard accel. By the time I got back into town, it would stall every time you touched the brake pedal even if it was in neutral.

Try taking the serpentine belt off, and see if it still stalls when you turn the wheel.

I'm gonna go with vacuum leak somewhere that's causing that fucked up idle.

mine had some start issues where it'd idle at 2 grand for a minute than go to 1,000 and stay there. Any lower than 1,000 and it'd stall. seems to have stopped that since I replaced the idler pulley.

I fucked around with it a bit more tonight.... I FINALLY got it to idle, but it was a super low and shaky idle at like 400 rpm. It would idle like that for about 45 seconds and then it would creep back up to about 2500-3000 and stay there.

SES codes 24 34 and 35

4000rpm even with a totally failed IAC is excessive. IIRC if you unplug it it will only go up to 2500 in proper condition.

I would verify the O ring on the IAC if its missing it can account for some of this.

I could be completely off base but I'm gonna go against the grain and vote LIM gasket, they cause some crazy idle issues on the LQ1 when they go...

......just stop messing around with old shitboxes, sell that thing for whatever you can get out of it and put that $ to into the CompG to get it up to snuff ....I still can't understand why you continue to fuck around with beaters and letting the '04 just sit there :bang:

I agree!!! Only cause I would like a 284 setup hahaha.

But no, seriously, find the issue and unload that onto someone else and put the cash into your Comp G.

Ok... After watching the video, I am in complete WTF... I am thinking there is an issue with the switch on the power steering rack... The switch raises the idle when your turning because of the load that the power steering pump puts on the engine... I am thinking its getting some weird readings right now

Dinunzio and I have been trying to diagnose this via facebook chat... Heres his suggestion:

i would

in this order

replace IAC

block off brake booster line

pull intakes

I dont remember if I gave you the spare sensors or not... But they are cheap to get... And the intake gaskets are under the front seat... The lowers anyway, I replaced the uppers... I removed the intake a few times so make sure it didnt get cracked... This cant be that hard of a problem to figure out

My 92 did the same thing in the fall and I had the Intake gaskets done. Hasn't done it since. I'd check that and the IAC. If not, I'd run a ECM Diagnostic. My old 96 pickup kept throwing IAC, EGR and TPS codes and would stall all the time. Replaced all that and it still did it. Took it in and the shop found my Computer was bad. Love GM !!
