Quality question of PaceSetter

Recommended Posts

Anyone used the Pacesetter headers? ZZP is out of my price range and the black coated Pacesetters are just inside of what I might be able to spend. Any comments on this vendor? This is for an L67 motor if that matters.

I have had a good bit of experience with the pace setter headers.

Personally I would seek out a set of SLPs, they seem to fit the best hands down.

the pace setters are fair in my oppinion, my issues with them are:

- Poor EGR pipe fitment, you will likely have to modify the tube some or the headers

-count on replacing ALL the hardware that comes with them, even with the zzp modified ones the hardware fits for nothing

- use none of the gaskets that come with them, seriously throw it all in the trash. use the OEM exhaust manifold gaskets, and buy a good header collector gasket. So far everyone except for some ridiculous aluminum gasket has failed. Also use good quality locking fasteners on all the flange connections

so far the only clamps that I found that have not pulled apart where the rear and front header connect are some big metal band clamps torqued way down.

The painted ones are junk, do not buy them. I'm not sure where you live, but they have a tendency to rust out in short order. As for the rest, everything Chris said is what we learned from experience with doing mine. The only Pacesetters to buy are the ceramic coated ones, otherwise just save up and buy some decent headers. Used SLPs would be my choice.

I had pacesetters on my GTP for literally a total of 3 weeks. I could not stand them. I sold them and got ZZP 304 stainless headers and do not regret spending the $$ on the ZZP's. I agree with what was said about saving the $ to buy a better set of used headers. SLP, TOG, or ZZP headers are all decent.

What they said. I'd try to find a set of TOGs for cheap. Or I've heard a few good things about SSAC headers

NOT impressed with them...i've had a exhaust leak from the day i installed them...(well, they were good til i went WOT and the Y-Pipe came apart)...i can't really afford a different set nor feel like taking the time to change them so i'm going to see if a local exhaust shop can weld the Y-Pipe on and hopefully that will fix my leak problem once & for all!

And, FWIW: Mine are the Ceramic Coated ones from ZZP (before they "fixed" the Y-Pipe issue)

the Y pipe sucks even on the "fixed" ones. get some big heavy duty band clamps and that should take care of it.

pics of said clamps?...

i was giong to try to use a set of the stainless clamps that you'd typically use to install exhaust tips but they were to big to fit up there...

when i did the cat back i noticed i can slide the y pipe up and down on the header and crossover...they wont come apart completely (apparently because they crimped down just enough)...

those are the exact clamps i had and i couldnt figure out a way to get them up there......maybe i'll take another look...

they were a tight fit. I ended up getting them on slightly staggered with the bolts facing eachother.

none right now, but I'll bother Shaun to take some

if you could get some pics i'd greatly appriciate it! i'd like to try using these clamps again before i end up having it welded.

I'll get under there soon to take some pictures. I can't fit under the goddamn car now that it's lowered

Lol! I can't fit under min and it's not lowered...guess that means I'm too fat!?!?...can you possible get a pic or two from up top as well as underneath?...um thinking it might be easier for me to try and get them on from up top...
