Mysteriphys
Hey, been a while since I posted here, I did a fluid flush last weekend on the tranny to see if I could get an issue resolved but it looks like it didn't help, when I put it into gear soon after starting I have to rev it a few times to get it to go into gear, I also changed the filter because my girl's father told me it might help. 94 olds Cutlass supreme 3.1L with the 4T60 E Tranny I was thinking the Friction rings are probably wearing out, but some posts on other car sites say it might be seals. just wondering if anybody has opinions or more importantly past experience with the issue, I'm pretty sure it's not solenoids, because once it's going it has no issues other than a laggy kickdown, but thats typical for the car. Brian P
Usually that type of problem stems from a weak fluid pump, leaking seals or a worn out valve body on these tranny's. It takes a lot for the clutches to wear out. You might be able to get a few more miles on it by increasing the fluid pressure. Pressure is controlled by engine vacuum acting on the transmission's external vacuum modulator. All aftermarket replacement modulators are the adjustable type and will let you reduce the vacuum exerted on the internal diaphragm. Reducing the vacuum = increased fluid pressure. This might buy you some more time but will not be a long-term fix. A rebuild would be in order. Luckily many trans shops will do a partial rebuild of the front half of the tranny only (fluid pump, pump shaft, valve body, etc) and therefore is relatively reasonable in price. Mysteriphys
K I'll have to save up now, I just bought a ball-joint, rotor, and pads for the front, the roads out here are pretty bad, so suspension/brakes comes before power-train on the needs done list :-P
