Guest TurboSedan
on the turbododge.com forum!! i was in a thread and the TGP came up. a guy mentioned he had a turbo and crossover pipe laying around for sale - that it was just a 'paperweight' to him. so he offers to sell it for $30 + $10 for shipping :) i just payed him via paypal and he's going to ship it out on Wednesday when paypal clears. the only thing wrong is a broken EGR tube & a stripped hole in the turbo where it bolts to the crossover. he said the shaft play was 'rock solid' and he told me the TGP he got the stuff from had a big hole in piston #6. well anywayz that just made my day link to pics my new toy (for T25/T28 hybrid?): http://td.rcwebdev.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=226446#post226446 EDIT: kinda funny - i bought my 1st TGP turbo/crossover for $250 on this forum hehehehe. joshua
skalor
Sweet buy!!! I got an x-over, climate controls, upper turbo 3.1 plenum for $15 at a yard once. I held the turbo 3.1 plenum upside down and told him it was a normal 3.1 crossover. The TGP I got the stuff of out had about 225,000 miles on it if I remember correctly. While I was at the yard a guy started talking to me about the car saying that he sees them everyday. He had no idea what a TGP was at all. He also tried telling me that he rebuilds trannies and that the TGP we were looking at had a TH-125C. I was "umm no, it's a 4T60", and he proceded to argue with me about it saying that someone must have put it in there. I just let him rant on about it. IMO i'm not "stealing". i'm recycling. (so says i anyway). i only do that to junkyards that charge me too much tho. i don't steal from the ones that give me fair/great deals. joshua

turbostewhite
You fellas must not shop a lot at junkyards. It's not a supply/demand kinda issue. It's a "How much money do I need to send my ex wife for alomony this month" kind of pricing scale. Get real. 90 percent of junkyard patrons take at least a lug nut or something... When you have to pay $ 100.00 for 2 bucket seats from a Beretta, it's time to reconsider where the real bargains are, you know? I have friends that own scrap yards. I know how much these guys pay for their cars. I'm not really saying it's okay to steal from people. Junkyards are supposed to be cheap for a reason. So taking that lug nut is more or less a protest to their greed. God bless capitalism!
Brian P
Considering when the JY's crush the cars and keep all the parts in it anyway!
bumpin_z
My local yard just charged me $10 for the lower door panels for my 93 cavi. They were the wrong color and were stained but I was going to hack them up. THey also try to sell taillights for $25 a piece. My buddy just sold them his berretta and it had a 2.8 GM Crate motor with only 86,xxx miles on it, all documented. And they only gave him $75 for it because the trans was shot and the engine computer got wet and it wouldnt start.
1trucavalier
either way they are making out they usually get domestic cars like cavalier, beretta, grand am prix etc... whole car for $100 or less so they are not loosing at all! Chris A
And how much do they have to sell out of that car to make it worth it. A lug nut is one thing, but IMO anything you have to throw over the fence and get later isn't a lug nut. And its not to say I haven't taken anything from a yard, but I'm not complaining about high prices either, just trying to point out that there is a definite reason for it. Yeah, its sounds like a great deal to pay $100 for a car, but all they might sell out of it is a set of bucket seats for $100, so where's the profit. Even though cars have lots of SELLABLE parts, it just may never sell. Then there are these dumbasses who go into the yards and just break stuff. I can't tell you how many times I've gone into a yard, seen a good part, and come back later to find some one took a crowbar to it and smashed it. Not to get to another part, jus to break it. Brian P
Most u-pull it junkyards pay nearly nothing for a car. They pay whatever the car is worth as scrap metal (aka "by the ton") so if they sell NOTHING from the car, the worst that happens is they break even. Usually the yards that pay more for a car are the ones that pull the parts themselves and store them. They make a killing of $ that way
turbostewhite
You're right about the prices. I know, because I also buy cars wholesale here from the same suppliers for the same prices...about $75 to $100...Those guys make out no matter what because of the tonnage and aluminum values in an "unpicked" car, which, by the way, I have NEVER seen happen. Even a Pinto has parts people will buy. Even an Escort. Even a Geo Metro. Don't think for a moment J/Y owners don't make money.Crushed cars are worth more, usually, than they paid for the cars in the first place. I still shop there, because it's marginally cheaper than new stock most of the time....but in order to get a decent deal, you have to buy a lot to get the guy's trust...so when he sees your face, he remembers all the cash you have brought him and maybe you'll get a break. Oh, and yeh...people, please stop trashing parts in the yards, breaks my heart to see a part i need badly that has been dicked because it took 2 10mm screws to remove it. TurboGTU
Oh...man...so many wasted parts...I hate that..And I remove my parts like it was my car I was working on....unless the stuff around it is useless and broken already. So many broken doorhandles, dash parts, bent hoods and beaten trunks to get them open. LOL..
1trucavalier
check this! I found a 88' 2.8L 5-speed grand prix with engine/tranny/shifter etc.... in the junkyard.
