nerfbars
I swapped an 89 motor into my 88 5spd Cutlass. The 88 had a smog pump and the 89 didnt. I used the 89 wiring harnness from the motor. A while after the swap I noticed one 2 wire plug by the main wiring harness connectors by the computer that wasnt plug in and the 89 wiring harness doesnt have the mate to plug it into. Does anyone know if thats what the 2 wire plug is for and will it effect performance? I dont have the old harness anymore to check it but I do have the smog pump. Thanks! Robby1870
Its prolly the plug of the AIR pump. Its emissions junk, so not having it wont hurt anything Robby
Justin
I bet that engine isn't a factory 5 speed engine then, because my 89 5 speed has the air pump. That engine has been handed around more than yo momma. 8)
Robby1870
Yeah, the factory 5spds had a spot on the rear manifold for th AIR pump, autos didnt Robby
nerfbars
Your correct the donor motor from the 89 was an automatic and I didnt put the smog pump back on it. But I was wondering if thats what my extra plug by the computer went to and is it hurting my performance by not having it hooked up?
Robby1870
Im not sure if that is the sensor for it, but Im guessing it is. You are not hurting performance at all by not having it Robby
