94GPGTP
Ok so i tearing the TGP down this weekend to fix a few things and do major Upgrades.. I am replacing the extremely leaky X-Over, Replacing the 282, 96 Knuckles, 2" lowering Springs, KYB struts, 34mm Sway Bar, ES Poly sway bar bushings, ES Poly Lower Control arm bushings.. The Rear gets coilovers and new trailing arms with Poly bushings. (future upgrades in the rear is 2nd Gen laterial links to freshen up and stiffen it all up).. But enough rambling.. I want to Wrap my DP and X-Over and shift cables with this heat wrap that i bought its 1/16" x 2".. How many layers do i need to do and how much of an overlap? RobertISaar
good idea to use it on the crossover(since it will keep the heat in the exhaust stream, meaning less underhood and a bit faster turbo spool), much less useful on the downpipe(since the exhaust lost a significant amount of heat to the turbo itself)... i would wrap it so that there is a solid two layers over the entire crossover. shift cables could probably stand less. and i guess if there is any left, go nuts on the downpipe. I have 100'.. I just wanted to cover everything up to keep heat away from parts that can melt..( wires, Shift cables) The shift cables are at least the most 3/4" away from the DP.. Thats why i wanted to wrap the DP and Cables to keep them from fighting each other and possibly ruin the cables.. So what you think.. Start wrapping it and cover half of the previous wrap until i get 2 layers on the x-over.. One layer should be suffice on the DP and cables.. ( basically making a sleeve for the cables)

( basically making a sleeve for the cables) more or less... but since you have 100' of it, you have plenty to spare for the shift cables and and downpipe. if the cable really does run that close, i would give it more attention. 94GPGTP
Ok so Im tired today of working on the TGP.. I did it all myself and swapping that tranny out was a PITA to get in! So i got the tranny swapped and the 34mm Sway bar in.. I heat wrapped the new X-over, DP, and shift cables like i planned on to.. I didnt even use a whole roll which is 50ft.. So tomorrow what i have left to do is press in the poly bushings into my newer control arm since i bent the last spare set i had, install the control arms, install ES sway bar bushing, disassemble the 96 knuckles to put lowering springs in and KYB struts for both sides, Install struts, put in CV's and brakes and set her on the ground.. Then all that is left is to bolt the x-over down, the DP, the turbo and install the charge pipes.. I also made one improvement while the tranny was out.. when i did the swap and finished it the tunk release didnt work.. so i connected the wires at the tranny switch plug to have it work all the time.. its going to be nice to be able to use the trunk release again.. Alot of work has been done and still some left.. Cant wait for this stage of work to be finished.. Old 282 New 282 Spec Stage 3 clutch and shot with the tranny out My new X-over (I Rebuilt It) New X-Over Wrapped and Set in place DP Wrapped New and Old Parts
mfewtrail
I'm curious why you chose that style flex for the crossover instead of the typical braided w/ inner liner flex everyone else usually goes with...
94GPGTP
Personally i havent been able to find the braided flex joints that are short and have small openings.. I have found ones that were a total of 4" long and 2 1/4" opening and its all wayyyy to big and would be boogered up.. These look just like the factory and have more flex than the factory and the inlet/outlet were maybe 1/16" larger.. One end was 1 3/4" and the other end 2" just like the x-over piping is.. 94GPGTP
Put the 96 Knuckles together today.. i have to reset the springs in the lower mount since i didnt get them right on.. its a PITA right now.. I also just ordered stainless steel brake lines.. 88.00 shipped

94GPGTP
Well im beat.. I got everything in the front suspension done so far that i know of.. Its all bolted down and greased up.. Sway Bar bolted down, Lower Control arm are tight, Ball joints in, tie rods in, and CV's are in.. I ended up changing out my brake system when i did the SS Lines.. I used a well known good set of calipers, mounting brackets, Pads (newer),Rotors (Newer) from the 96 Lumina LS 3.4 i parted awhile back.. I just need to put the SS Lines on the rear brakes and bleed the system out.. Then to the easy part.. i just have to bolt the turbo back on and all the piping and should be good to go again.. Oh and another thing.. the rear coilovers are not ready yet because the sleeves had to get machined out to fit over the strut housing and the machine shop isnt going to get to it until they get a job in.. That way its free for me.. So im gunna sit funny for a bit until next week when i get my coilovers on..
94GPGTP
When are you planning to be done with this? I'd love to come by and see that thing. Well if i bust my balls tomorrow i could have it running but not driving by later in the evening.. I need to bleed the brakes.. So if I dont get her finished up tomorrow it will be Friday for sure.. 94GPGTP
Well didnt get as far as i wanted to but it will make tomorrow really short and i should be able to drive her.. I had to tap out the holes for the DP and then had to go get SS bolts for the DP to turbo.. So that shot 1 hour to 1 hour 30mins down the drain.. But I got the shifter cables bolted down, X-over is tightened down, turbo bolted down, and DP to turbo is bolted down.. I have to tighten the bolts that hold the DP to the DP holding bracket and connect the exhaust to the DP.. That pretty much takes car of the hard part.. Then i just need to put the IC piping on and the STB.. I also have to custom fit my oil catch canister to the engine bay too.. Im still spewing oil outta the breather.. Passenger Side Drivers Side Underside Shot of tranny and wrapped DP and Cables Leaky X-over Bent control arms Shots of the X-over,Turbo,DP
