95 MC 3100/4T60-E swap into 92 CS

Okay, has anyone had good, simple luck swapping the 3100/4t60-e in in place of the old 3.1/4t60 in their W's? The old 3.1 (1992 Cutlass Supreme) had a broken head bolt and ruined the motor (seems like a strange problem) and I have access to a 3100/4t60-e + wiring, etc from a '95 MC. Figured I'd go ahead and try the swap, and it seems like one ridiculous issue after another. :willynilly: After finding out the MC harness was just too different, I went and scavenged the JY for a 3.1 with a 4T60-E and the same interior for the engine harness. After making sure all the wires from the car to the engine harness matched and running the appropriate grounds, I finally got the thing running OK with the '92 3.1 mounts, '95 engine/trans, and a '93 CS wiring harness (had 4t60-e)/ECM. However, it seems like the trans is slipping terribly in Drive, like its starting off in 3rd or something. The plugs on the trans fit fine, and no wires were broken in the harness, and the fluid/filter is new... Any thoughts?

Thanks guys, new to W-body's and this swap is completely spur of the moment. I've had H and K bodies for a long time so most of my experience is with those cars and the 3800-series/4.9 engines, and the late 60's/early 70's E-body's :burnout: LOL . The Cutlass is really a nice car, like mint shape in and out :high5:, so I feel its worth the swap and the time. But troubleshooting isn't necessarily my strong point.

The MC ran and drove perfectly as well, so I know 10 days ago it was fine.

isnt there a safety feature on this tranny that makes it only workin in third if theres something electrical wrong with the tranny?

that happened to my dads 97 gmc 1500. kept poppin fuses and would only stay in 3rd. i think it ended up being a bad shift solenoid or something.

it does sound a lot like failsafe mode...

i don't suppose you had the wiring diagrams during this whole fiasco?

and what MEMCAL are you using?

EDIT: and from the sounds of it, you grabbed the harness from a 93 3.1, not a 93 3100, right?

Yes, I used the wiring/ECM from a 93 3.1 with the -E trans. And all of the fuses are good, just checked them out. I've been searching all over for wiring diagrams... I have a suspicion something may not be the same with the trans wiring? No luck so far...

Also, just tried it again, I can manually downshift it into 2nd once I'm up around 30 mph.

Well, got it figured out last night. Managed to find some more pinouts online and they were dead on. Car is great now; finally I can just enjoy it! Thanks guys!

Great info on the site I found: http://www.atraonline.com/manuals/general/tetdv/tetdv-toc.htm
