Addicted To Boost
I'm looking to pull some parts and I was wondering what I need to do to remove all the 5-speed specific parts from the firewall plate.. particularly the clutch pedal assembly and the clutch master.. Anyone who is familiar with 5-speed swaps and what I need, please step in! Your input is much appreciated!

Addicted To Boost
Anyone? I'm wondering what I need to do to remove the firewall plate with the pedals mounted to it.
Addicted To Boost
Also, can the firewall plate be removed with the engine still in the car? Or do I have to wait until the engine/trans is out of the car before I can remove it?
Danspeed1
I am very interested in what you are doing as I am looking to do the same thing.... if I can ever find a lumina to strip. Â I don't want to hi-jack your thread, but I was wondering since we were on the topic if the parts from a 282 car are the same as a 284 car? Are they interchangeable? Wouldn't want to pull pedals, cables, shifter from a 282 car only to find it doesn't work with a 284 trans. Meanwhile, if both are the same, the removal process should be the same. This should help you get the parts out.... found it online.... not my car but very cool step by step.... jimmyfloyd
Good luck with the trans and motor in the car. I have removed a 284 and a 282 before, and I could not remove the plate without them out of the way. Â As for the pedal stuff, it requires taking most of the dash apart. I believe it took me longer to remove those than the transmission itself.

Addicted To Boost
Alright, started stripping the car today. I pulled the seats out, lowered the steering column, removed the dash, and removed the shifter assembly. Â I ran into a bit of a snag before the end of the day though; there is one bolt stuck in this metal box that goes above the steering column... pictured below with my hand on it. There is a bolt on the right side of it close to the firewall, and there is a nut on the left side of the box, again near the firewall. I can sit there and spin either one (pretty difficult to turn as well) but they aren't connected and neither want to come loose. Is there something I'm missing here? Any recommendations? Â Also, I was wondering if I could remove the clutch slave from the trans case without hurting anything or messing anything up... I'm trying to remove as much as possible before the trans is pulled to minimize the risk of anything being damaged in the process. Â Thanks in advance
Crazy K
they ARE connected... it is the bolt that goes through the brake pedal itself. you must hold one end while turning the other.
Addicted To Boost
That's strange... I turned the bolt head on one side and watched the other and didn't see it spinning... Â Can this whole thing come out with the firewall plate then, or do I need to remove this beforehand?

http://www.bonnevilleforum.com/showthread.php?t=285100  DG I plan on manual swapping my '95 Z34 as well. I would like to point out that 282 parts SHOULD work with the 284, since the 284 is just a heavy duty 282.

Crazy K
I think you can, but it is important NOT to apply the clutch pedal while it is removed or you will ruin the slave, IIRC.
GOT2B GM
i would honestly make a hole for the master in your existing firewall plate, rather than tear the entire dash apart....
White93z34
I would, without question grab the firewall plate. Â make sure you get every bit of hardware, specifically the clips/nuts/washers that hold the shifter to the floor. Also be sure to get the entire harness from the cruise/clutch switch/wipers. its a total PITA to remove but worth the effort.

I've grabbed every fastener and clip for the shifter assy, cable retainers, etc. I was curious though, is there a connector somewhere for the clutch switch and cruise switch? Or do I just need to cut the wiring? (I'd really rather not cut it if possible!) Â Thanks guys
94GPGTP
Are you going to 5 speed a TGP? If you are you have to mod your firewall plate to take the master. Remember you have a PM3 and the 5 speed car is vacuum and the firewall plates are different between the pm3 and vacuum. Now unless you are going to do the brake swap I'd say grab the plate. But grab it anyway to sell. Plus I call dibs on the brake booster if your not using it. I'll need it.
Addicted To Boost
I'm not sure yet, I haven't decided whether I want to get a project car (kicking myself in the ass HARD for getting rid of my 91...) or if I should put it in the TGP. I kinda want to start fresh and build something for myself though.

Probably because the donor didn't have cruise but when I finished my swap the cruise worked fine like normal but now it doesn't work. Idk why but I'm curious but not at the same time. There should be a connector on just about every switch/sensor in the car.
White93z34
the clutch/cruise/brake lamp/wiper harness is abnormally big, it goes from under the dash to the wiper motor to a few other places. but it will completely unhook from the interior harness.
