clevelandfan
i have a 97 gp se and i wunna do a cold air intake on it. i am NOT paying 300 bucks for one tho, so i am gonna use the piping, and a k&n cone to do it one issue tho. i hear the cpu is in the intake box on those 3800s right? if so, how do i go about removing that box, without having an issue with that, and where can i put it? thanks for the help
KingVee
"Cold air intake" and "stock piping with cone filter" are two things that can't make sense... The second one would effectively be called a warm air intake because nothing is preventing it from sucking in all that beautiful hot air that circulates in your engine bay. Your choices would be, either you run custom piping to the fender well, or just buy a Wizaired system and be done with it. https://www.zzperformance.com/grand_prix/products1.php?id=247&catid=113 I say, either do things right or don't do them at all, this "I'm not paying... for that" mentally is going to bring you nowhere... Think about it.

Think about it. Agreed, do it right or don't do it at all. However, if you had originally planed to make a FWI (fender well intake) then by all means if you feel you can do it yourself, do it. The PCM is in the air box, and you can delete the box and just mount the PCM flush to where the box used to mount and run your piping above it. You can find some good articles on how to make a FWI if you just search around a bit.
White93z34
There is positively no way what-so-ever that I would pay $250 for a box with a filter inside it. be creative and see what some other people have done, hopefully more will post. I don't know the answer to your question but I would have to believe there are more cost effective ways to do the same thing.

Think about it. hold on a sec there man. im talking about running my own tubing, and using a k&n cone filter. im not doing a "warm air intake." that would be pointless. i was just wondering if there were issues with the pcm, and from what ive heard, there arent. so when the body work is done, and i have the money for the parts, i will do my own system
