Wheels
Hey everyone. It’s going to be 1yr since I’ve had my car and its time for me to give a complete tune up on it. I have only put about 1,500 miles on the car since I’ve owned it. The car has 103k miles on it right now and I’m not sure what the previous owner has done to it before. It seemed to be well-maintained and the vehicle runs great.....but I don’t want to assume too much. So I really want to tune the car up as much as I can. I have $1,500 to spend and I want to make sure I get the things I need for it. I would like to change/replace the important things that are needed such as: plugs and wires (ac delco) gaskets (?) flush transmission oil and coolant change ball joints new struts (kyb struts) rotors and brake pads (r1 drilled/slotted with bendix ct3 pads) motor mounts o2 sensor (?) cat and exhaust (unsure yet) etc.... After the car has warmed up, it has a strange-funky odor coming from the exhaust. It doesn’t smell like rotten egg....so I don’t think it’s the catalytic. (I could be wrong.) I’m not sure what it could be....but hopefully I can find out soon. That’s the only issue I have with the car. Is there anything else I may have left out that I should replace or add to the list? Any info would be great. Thanks.

(I could be wrong.) care to elaborate? there are quite a few scents that can be created when the engine is warm, most of them have distinct scents and causes... alec_b
Put your hand by the exhaust for a second and taste it. If it's sweet, it's coolant. Otherwise I have seen cat. converter failures where they don't smell like rotten egg. Worth checking in to. I'd pass on the motor mounts. At 100k they may be worn, but the 3100 isn't the most powerful engine in the world and they have a decent mounting system. Save your money. W-body 3100s have DAMN good mounting, the lower carlines SUCK! have to remove mounts just to change the serpentine belt.

Wheels
It didn’t have a sweet taste to it, so I doubt it was the coolant. And it’s not a foul odor.....but rather a really strong exhaust odor. (Example: As if the car was left in the garage running for a long time....and when you inhale, you get light-headed immediately.) Luckily, I don’t smell that when I’m in the car. Should I just go ahead and replace the cat?
RobertISaar
in that case, it sounds like the catalyst is just worn out. at 103K miles, it wouldn't be uncommon.

Wheels
True As long as it saves me some money.
RobertISaar
True As long as it saves me some money. i really don't see it saving you money, the only reason i would change it is if the scent bothers you or if it fails an e-test, or if you REALLY like the environment. alec_b
Luckily they don't test on scent. If you want a good replacement just use a magnaflow high-flow universal replacement. They can be had for around $75 bucks, maybe less. Up here in minnesota we don't have e-tests so I just remove it. Free HP!!!

IIRC, the order fee is waived if you order $100 or more of stuff at once... i'm sure you could pick up other usefuel stuff to bring it up.
