94GPGTP Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 it was the caddy wheels that made you go outta control.. Quote
Crazy K Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 This car is still in better shape that Psychomatt's vert was before whoever rebuilt it with the wrong year parts did the job. Can it be fixed? yes, but you would need a complete front half of a donor car and be a skilled welder with the ability to put it together straight since the unibody is toast. If you want another Lumina, go buy a base 3.1 coupe from texas and use it's shell. DONE. END. DO NOT WASTE FURTHER EFFORT ON THIS CAR. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Im Sorry to hear. I remember what it was like when my car was trashed. I wish the best for you no matter what route you decide to take ..... car wise. Quote

Sorry! but it was badly rebuilt. It was a nice looking car, but it was far from straight, coupled with incorrect parts like a 1989 frame hacked to add LQ1 mounts, as well as a 1989 core support with 88-93 radiator in a 94. this car(just like Matt's) needs the complete right subfender portion of the unibody going from the firewall to the radiator support replaced because it has collapsed. Also needed are the frame, radiator support, possibly rack... (remember Matt's rack was mysteriously sheared and fame off the frame while he was driving) possible struts and wheel bearings... (Matt's wheel bearing were bad, so are ones on a car I own that had a frame impact) and the exteror parts, too. SOMETIMES THEY ARE NOT MEANT TO BE BROUGHT BACK. I'm sorry this happened, and I'm letting you know what to expect. I hope you will find success in using this car's guts as a transplant for a different car. Quote
ss427 Posted February 19, 2010 Author Report Posted February 19, 2010 I just got back to NY in a 96 LeSabre loaner from my parents. God I miss my gears! I keep reaching down only to find my hand on the bench seat cushion where my Hurst T handle should be. Thanks for all the advice and input. I don't know what I will do yet but I'm definitely going to try to fix it before I give up on it all together. Even if I can patch it up good enough to get through the rest of the semester that would be fine. There's three Z34s in yards near me which is a good thing, but I won't be buying anything right away. I'll keep this thread updated as I get into the potential repair. Quote
White93z34 Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 I have spare parts if you are interested. pm me. Quote
GOT2B GM Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 I have a good 5 spd rad, headlights, corners, cooling fans.... not as much as Chris, but I'm sure you'll be able to find lots of parts here on the board. Quote
xtremerevolution Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 If you plan to rebuild this, it sounds like it will be one money pit. Quote
Breakdown Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Tough break, looks as if that rock caused 90% of the damage. If you didn't have the misfortune of colliding with some rocks, you'd be discussing weather to repair the car now or wait till spring, since it would be cosmetic. Quote
Crazy K Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 replica with a donor body > rebuilt 8 days a week. Good luck. Quote
xtremerevolution Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Exactly. Seriously dude, consider how many things can possibly go wrong and count your costs in a worst case scenario. It will not be cheap. It will be much cheaper to get another car and swap everything over, and less time consuming as well. In fact, you'd actually make some of the money back by sending this car to the scrapper once you have everything you need transferred over. Quote

As much as I hate to see a w go to the yard, he makes a valid argument. Quote
jeremy Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 I vote for swapping the powertrain into a 'vert Quote
MonteCarloChick Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 How did that happen? Ice? Quote
94 olds vert Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 I vote for swapping the powertrain into a 'vert x2 That would be really sweet. Quote
ss427 Posted February 20, 2010 Author Report Posted February 20, 2010 Yeah it was an icy patch right after a storm we got last Tuesday. I tried to avoid the rock, but it was moving so fast that the car didn't have enough time to steer completely out of the path of it. I just realized the engine is sitting lower and forward, so I think the cradle might also be bent in a V shape where the front mount attaches. This car was kind of already a dog when I got it. It had been backed into in the RH quarter by a pickup, broken into twice, and backed into again in the front. I had originally planned to eventually use the engine and tranny and make a Z34 convertible, and that's still going to happen. I just wish it could have survived until May! We'll see! Quote

NTRCOOL Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 You might luck out at a body shop and have the front structure pulled out for around $250. Trying to give you some hope. Quote
