ss427 Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Bummer! About an hour ago at about 45 MPH I lost control in my Z and went off the road into a big boulder.. I moved the boulder about 6 feet which was pretty impressive, but my whole RH front corner is destroyed. The positive news? She starts up and drives perfect Didn't have my camera on me at the scene but I'll snap some pics of her in the AM. Quote
94 olds vert Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 That sucks man. I am sorry to hear that. Quote
Andrew Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 well, if you decide to part her out, i can guarantee people will want the trans! Quote
ss427 Posted February 17, 2010 Author Report Posted February 17, 2010 Haha nah, the heart of the beast will live again in a new W body. I was going to transplant it into a CS ragtop at some point anyway.. Hell who knows maybe it'll look more savable when it's light outside! Quote
Euro Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Ouch man!!! I hope it's not as bad as it sounds Quote
3pt1lumina Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Seems in the last 6 months, there have been quite a few W body deaths. Sad to hear, glad you are okay, though. Maybe in the light, it will be repairable. Quote
jake91 Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 i have always said these cars are tanks that sucks man Quote
Octavarium454 Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 i have always said these cars are tanks that sucks man x2 on the tanks comment. Sorry to hear that though. Quote
ss427 Posted February 18, 2010 Author Report Posted February 18, 2010 It doesn't look as bad as it did the night it happened, but it still crumpled up pretty good. I'm going to try to pull it back out. If I can get enough clearance for the radiator and fans and the hood shuts okay, then I think I'll be able to get it on the road again. has anybody ever tried anything like this before? Steve Lumina Blood! Cradle bent forward of suspension components, leaving suspension/axles unharmed. Quote
xtremerevolution Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 I'd say to hell with it. That's a lot of damage. I'd just get a high mileage Z34 for cheap and swap the engine out of yours and into the new one, and call it a day, if you really want to. Unless you have a way of straightening out that frame for cheap. Quote
94 olds vert Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 That's depressing. My buddy hit a pole with his monte, he jury rigged a light and got the hood to shut, and he drove it for a while like that. Quote
tornado_735 Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 :supaburn: dude, that's painful to look at. I'd say to hell with it. That's a lot of damage. I'd just get a high mileage Z34 for cheap and swap the engine out of yours and into the new one, and call it a day, if you really want to. Gonna have to X2 this. Salvage everything you can off this one though. Quote
xtremerevolution Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 At minimum you're looking at a new cradle, possible new trans cooler lines, headlight assembly, grille, hood, front bumper cover, bumber insert, a fender or two, the front panel, engine mounts, possible new radiator and/or A/C condenser, transmission cooler (if it had one), and who knows what else. Euro Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 OUCH! that sucks man. I x2 on the, finding another donor Z34 Quote
GOT2B GM Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 With the unibody bent up like that, i'd find a clean car and 5 spd swap it. Quote
White93z34 Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 take it from someone who fucked up his z34 in that fashion. pull the parts and swap something. Quote
supertrick_05 Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Holy balls...that is horrendous! Sorry to hear that, but glad you're okay. I X1000 to swapping the stuff to another car...a Fiero perhaps? Quote
GOT2B GM Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 On the bright side, looks like the water pump is easier to work on..... Quote
jeremy Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 ....you should have aimed for the sign instead of the boulder Quote
3pt1lumina Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Looks like there may be rail damage. Anything is fixable, just depends how much effort/time/money you want to sink into it. If you don't have access to a frame machine, it may be time to call it a day. Quote
Twenty Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 It didn't look too bad there, but then..... I don't know what to suggest. It may be better to buy a new Z, but I'm the guy that, should something happen to my car (knock on wood) I will fix it if it can be fixed, regardless of cost. Quote
