Radio in a 2004 Grand Prix

Alright i have a 2004 Grand Prix and my stereo skips my cd's. it's just the single CD player one not the 6 disc. I was thinking about replacing it, but i hear that the driver's info center won't display the date if an aftermarket radio is put in, because it runs from the radio. I also hear the chime won't work. Is this true? And if i get a radio out of another grand prix, but the radio with the satellite radio and 6 cd changer, will it display the date still and will the chime work?

an aftermarket radio or a radio out of another grand prix, or both?

factory radio. they are VIN encoded. if VINs don't match it will not function until re-programmed.

try taking your current radio out and cleaning the laser lens with a q-tip and lens cleaning solution.

Alright thanks, by the way NICE wheels on your grand prix, i forgot to take my 93 pic off and put up an 04, are those GXP wheels?

Thanks! They're just stock GTP Comp G wheels.

A Metra GMOS-01 harness will retain door chimes and RAP. I dont think the info center goes through the factory radio, but i could be wrong. Ive put radios in these cars before and i dont recall it affecting the info center. Chris (slick) would probably know for sure.

Been too long since I've been an installer, but I don't remember it affecting the info center any.

August is right on; with the proper harness, door chimes, rap, etc.... all function as normal.

I have a question. Will that style radio from a Grand Prix 04-08 have a same plug as my lumina?? How about the style from a Grand AM with the monsoon sysytem?? I know it's the same style as the GP's. If so I'm thinking about upgrading to that style of radio, but I hope I dont lose the radio controls either. I hope I also can have RDS programmed by the dealer.

No.

You would also have to figure out some way to turn it on, since it does NOT have an ignition wire. It is triggered through the data wire.

So is there a way to figure out how to rig the power wire?? Is it the same plug?

Plugs are different.

The data wire (not a power wire) is a signal.

No, you will NOT get it to work without some serious creativity, and a wallet to support it.

Well what if I went to the bone yeard to cut off the plug and run a separate 12V igniton wire from another source?

Dude, your not getting it. You can wire in the plug, fine. But, the radio does not have an 12V + turn on (ignition). It rely's on a data signal to turn it on.

I'm done with this, and trying to explain. Please waste your money.
