Anything plastic you'll need to slightly rough it up with fine sandpapar. Thoroughly clean them and paint. From there, you'll want to apply a good couple clear coats to avoid chipping. If metal, before painting you'll need to use primer. Paint to metal will not stick or last. That's about it, keep a clean / organized paint room and don't get in a hurry.
