supersniperkilla
My alternator is on the fritz and i can tell it is on its way out...i can get a great deal on a remanufactured alternator for $20 but it is for a 3.1 Will this work? BXX
No.
slick
Yes it will. I put the alternator from my 88 regal in my cutlass without any real issues. Just had rotate the casing so that the mounting points lined up. No shit??? I could have sworn the mounting points were different. Did they all line up, or just a few? The alternators themselves were identical. I had to unbolt the 2 halves, and rotate the front piece so that the mounting points lined up correctly. I forget which way I had to rotate it,but if you compare a 2.8/3.1 alternator to one from an LQ1, you will see what I mean. The alternator is technically the same, just the angles at which the 2 halves of the case are joined is different. And Yes, all the mounting points were the same. I remember fighting like a bitch trying to get the 2.8 alt to fit on my 3.4 to no avail, then when i got fed up and put it next to the one i had pulled out i saw that it was basically a mirror image of the 2.8 alt. So thats when i rotated the front half of the case and it slipped in like a glove.
GOT2B GM
his 94 will have the round CS130D will it not?

GOT2B GM
and a 3.1 alternator is a CS130 correct? (3100 is CS130d)

GOT2B GM
so a 3.1 alternator will not work on a 94+ 3.4 dohc.
slick
Correct. He would need a 3100 alternator, in which he would have to verify that he could rotate the housings.

But are close matches. The only difference between the alternators is the rear snap on plastic casing. Anecdotal evidence: I once got an alternator for a 3100 from a junkyard, pulled off the shelf. It was the correct alternator, except for having a incorrect rear plastic shell. That alt had a cooling duct. It was from an LQ1. MATCH CONFIRMED. supersniperkilla
i am not sure when the 3.1 motors stopped in production ...the alternator is off craigs list and the guy just says 3.1L He does not specify whether 3.1 or 3100

DO NOT ASSUME. later model 3100s have a different bracket, such as the 02 GP broken in my driveway... but the 99 monte carlo has the same style as a 95 Cs... so that is safe to say... No ear rotation is needed. only the rear plastic cover would need changing, if the basic alternator is correct. If the pulley is a different size, you could change the pulley, or belt to match. 1999 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO 3.1L 189cid V6 FI (M) : Electrical : Alternator Price Core Total AdviceBBB PRECISION Part # N82223 More Info Std; Amps: 100 $100.89 $0.00 $100.89 Add to Cart NSA Part # ALT1413 More Info Std; Amps: 100 - Stocked in outlying warehouse--shipping delayed up to 1 business day Part Image $102.79 $0.00 $102.79 Add to Cart BBB PRECISION Part # 82223 More Info {Remanufactured ALTERNATOR} Std; Amps: 100 $79.79 $36.00 $115.79 Add to Cart BECK/ARNLEY Part # 1866316 More Info {May Not Include Pulley} Alternator, Remanufactured, 105 Amperes;Serpentine 6 Groove;1 Per Car (Only 2 Remaining) Part Image $102.79 $40.00 $142.79 Add to Cart REMY Part # 91502 More Info {Remy Gold} 100/105 Amps Part Image $166.79 $0.00 $166.79 Add to Cart ACDELCO Part # 3342466A More Info {#88864270} GENERATOR,(REMAN) WITH NEW REGULATOR; 2 DOORS; DELCO CS130D; 105 AMPS $154.79 $15.00 $169.79 Add to Cart BOSCH Part # AL8716X More Info {Remanufactured Alternator - May Not Include Pulley} Refer to Application Notices B103 and B111 Part Image $121.79 $55.00 $176.79 Add to Cart REMY Part # 20121 More Info {Reman} 105 Amps Part Image $135.79 $50.00 $185.79 Add to Cart DENSO Part # 2105114 More Info {Remanufactured} LS * Non-stock item--shipping delayed up to 2 business days looks like different part numbers from a 95 3100...
