3pt1lumina
My buddy has a 94 Regal, 3800 with a 4T60e (I think)... He just got a SES with code p1640... I can't seem to find any info on line and he has it at a shop to be fixed tomorrow, and I think they are going to try and sell him a PCM.... and I don't know anything about this code. Help?! 9lumina6
P1640.... "Driver-1-Input High Voltage" According to my Powrtuner. Looking at the codes around it I almost want to say it's something to do w/ the alternator not functioning properly. Dont quote me on that though Too bad Tom lives in Tennessee, or I could plug the Tuner in and monitor what all that shit is doing. *actually scratch that, it's a 94..OBD1 I couldnt plug the tuner into it. I'm pretty sure the Codes meen the same thing still tho.
mfewtrail
Bad evap solenoids seem to commonly cause this issue in 94-95 cars. Tell the shop it's at to actually diag the code instead of shotgunning a pcm at it. People seem to think quad driver codes automatically mean the pcm needs replacing, and that's usually not the case in my experience.
3pt1lumina
Well, that's what I told him. After I did some reading, I see that the EVAP or the TCC can send a false signal to the PCM, causing the p1640 code to set. I told him to tell the shop to run a data stream and get freeze frames on it, as we would do here at my dealer with a GM Tech II... I am waiting to hear what happened today, as I relayed all of this info in this thread back to him. I will keep you all posted.
9lumina6
Didnt you tell me the other day that Tom just had the TCC replaced on that thing not too long ago??
3pt1lumina
Didnt you tell me the other day that Tom just had the TCC replaced on that thing not too long ago?? Nah, I was telling him to replace it based on the symptoms he was having. He decided to go with the PCM as the shop guaranteed him that was the culprit. Let's see if I get a text message saying it is okay in a few days...
