gmrulz4u Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 I'm ALMOST positive that my tranny is shifting late...but just want to make sure! So, what do all of you that have a 440-T4 with 2.8 or 3.1 MPFI engine consider normal for your up-shift points? Mainly the 1-2 Upshift under both normal and hard acceleration. I notice that my 1-2 Up-shift usually occurs at almost 3,500 RPMs under normal acceleration. If I accelerate hard, it can go as high as 5,400 RPMs(in fact, sometimes it feels like it won't even shift into 2nd unless I let off the gas!). So, what's the norm? THANKS! Quote
Robby1870 Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 What do you mean by normal acceleration? Under normal acceleration (by my terms) it should shift from 1-2 at about 12-15mph Robby Quote
gmrulz4u Posted September 19, 2003 Author Report Posted September 19, 2003 I mean "normal" as in when you're driving around the city with no need to accelerate quicker than "normal"... It's kind of impossible to define "normal" for everybody, so I just expect everyone to define it for themselves and give me the data for whatever THEY consider "normal":) So are you saying that vehicle speed determines shift timing MORE than just the engine speed(RPMs)?? I always thought that RPMs were what I should be looking at when trying to determine shift-timing? Quote

As for rpms, under the conditions above, it shifts from 1-2 at about 2K-2.2K rpms Robby Quote
gmrulz4u Posted September 19, 2003 Author Report Posted September 19, 2003 No. Vacuum controls shifing. Do you mean the modulator? Doesn't the TV Cable have more to do with shift timing? Quote
Marcus18 Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 My ste shifts at 4500rpm at WOT. normal accel is around 3/4 and shifts around 3500. hehe and I wonder why my transmission is going out and I get such bad MPG I fill up every other day. marcus Quote
mdelorie Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 If it's a cool morning, just pulling out of my driveway, and down my street, it'll shift into 2nd on the idle.... which is near 1500 RPM Quote

mdelorie Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 Kinda halfway between Cranbrook and Kelowna... about 5 minutes from the border. Quote
Bolt_Crank Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 I'm like 45 mins from the border... lol Quote
mdelorie Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 What's Grand Prairie's airport like? I've been thinkin' of making a flight out that way... Quote
Bolt_Crank Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 honestly... I don't really know I've never been in it... but I've never heard any complaints, and I think up to 727's or 737's can land there.... runways look pretty decent (had Shockwave go there a few years ago, lol 300MPH jet powered semi ) Quote
