transmission troubles

So today I was driving the luminator around, stopped at a red light, and light turns green, I put foot on gas and it just reved, I threw it in park and back into drive and off it went. This has happned a couple times in the last months but today it happned a few times.

What may the problem be, bad clutches? Fluid is good nice and red and to the top. I find the strangest thing that putting it in park and then back into drive will pop it back into gear. maybe a bad trans pump? Any ideas/discussion considered.

to a pan drop, put a new filter in and add fluid till it is 1/4 inch over the mark. try again.

or... if you want to be quick about it... add 1/2 a quart of fluid and see if the level actually changes. if not, keep adding fluid till it is 1/4 inch over. btw... you are checking it with the engine running, right???

I am checking it with the engine running, in park and hot, but i dont remember if it is over the hot mark or just at it. umm, also its minus 40 so I was thinking maybe its just not getting enough pressure? my father in law had this car before me and just had the filter and pan drop not too long ago. maybe its time for another.

oh? Fluid is cheap, so try adding a half quart of fluid and recheck the measurement, and repeat if necessary. Having the fluid higher than the line by 1/4 inch will not hurt anything, and most members do it to prevent pump starvation during hard cornering.

I dunno why...But i'm sorta thinking it may be something with the alignment of the shifter. It's really strange that it would work perfectly fine after putting it in park and back into Drive. If possible, next time it happens try playing around with the shifter a little and see if that makes a difference.
