Bleeding the Brakes -- According to Carrol Smith & Max Tilton

For those of you familiar with Carroll Smith, This should be old news and firmly ingrained in their mind (and for those of you who are not, but have any care about going fast, do so quickly!), but the opportunity to read over this again presented itself since I just replaced all of my flex lines and was discussing how to bleed the brakes.

The link below is part of Engineer to Win, part of a trio of similarly themed "XXXXXX to Win" books by Carroll Smith, who is widely regarded as an authority on racing knowledge.

The main procedure was written by Max Tilton...yes that Tilton. The one that makes all the master cylinders and pedal assemlies used in a butt ton of race cars.

I know bleeding the brakes gets debated sometimes, so here is some more fodder to add to the pot.

vacuum pump is FTW.

but i'm used to doing it the old school method. didn't know that stomping the pedal caused cavitation though.

Witnessed that firsthand when my roommate was basically trying anything to get his clutch bled. All that came out the bleeder was extremely foamy brake fluid. But the clutch does move a whole lot more fluid than brakes, but the same principle applies.

And the fact that the brake fluid doesnt need any more help getting through the lines especially in the front was really pissing me off last night when I replaced those flex lines. This was compounded by the fact that I HATE brake fluid and it was running down my arms.
