1tinindian
My 95 GTP 3.4 has been smelling like raw fuel for the past couple weeks and it was getting to the point where fuel was boiling off of the hot lower intake. I pulled the upper intake and fuel rail off and found that 3 injectors were cracked and leaking fuel like crazy. The techs I work with had never seen this. Now that they have been replaced, the smell is gone, and I can only hope the mileage will improve. Leon
Andrew
glad you fixed it! did you upgrade to the better yellowtop injectors or just oe replacements?
1tinindian
I replaced the bad ones with good used ones. Also replaced all the old o-rings on all injectors with new blue colored ones. New GM injectors were $97 each, and I needed this back on the road fast. What are the yellowtops you speak of? Spendy also I bet!
5speedz34
I'm curious of these "yellowtops" also. I've never seen that happen to an injector before though.

1tinindian
The yellow tops are from the Ford 5.0 but work in our cars What, if any, advantage is there in using those in our cars?
Andrew
they are cheaper, and have a better spray pattern(3 holes in the tip compared to 2 in the OE) which some will say helps with fuel economy and/or performance. several years ago i was in your dillemma, and bought new yellowtops for about $40 each. I know Nick has used them as well.
mfewtrail
What, if any, advantage is there in using those in our cars? Cheap + reliable compared to old multecs. You can often find them for $25-30 each new from various vendors online or on ebay. The Ford rating is "19lbs," but they flow more like our 22lb injectors. They're good up to about 300hp(crank). A lot of TGP owners run them as the old multecs often short out or get clogged + leak. Instead of paying ~$100 to clean + flow test my stock leaking injectors in my car, I opted for a brand new set of yellow tops. No performance difference really, just gained my fuel mileage back + better driveability since my old injectors were leaking a bit. I've also never seen a multec injector crack like that and I've seen LOTS of these injectors. Has your fuel rail ever been removed before on that car? Has your fuel rail ever been removed before on that car? It has been apart more than once before I ever got to it. Will my stock injector wire harness work with the Ford yellowtop injectors, or does it need to be modded? I'm not sure if I will see much of an increase in MPGs, as I get around 24-25 on the highway and around 20 per tank full. Is that about what others here are getting with their stock LQ1s? AL
I get a little higher on the highway actually
mfewtrail
Will my stock injector wire harness work with the Ford yellowtop injectors, or does it need to be modded? No modification necessary, they use the same connector(there are some newer ones with different connectors, so make sure you see pictures of them before buying). The only difference between them is that you need use the top slot on the fuel injectors for the fuel injector clips @ the rail. I've been running the yellow tops for a little over three years now in my black TGP. Sprayitracing has a set of 6 brand new ones made by Denso for $162, I think that's the cheapest new price I've seen lately. http://www.sprayitracing.com/19lb%20Denso%20EV1%20High%20Impedance.htm Search around though and you might find some new ones cheaper. Other than those new ones, there are tons of sets of reconditioned injectors on ebay that have been ultrasonically cleaned + flow tested. They're typically around $75-100 for a set of 6 or 8. Search "Ford 19lb injectors" and "Bosch 19lb injectors." The ford ones are made by Bosch. Don't let the Bosch name scare you, their products are nowhere near as bad as people make them out to be. *Some info that might be worth mentioning* Back in the mid-late 90's(seen them in several 1996 vehicles before) there was a "design III" version of these injectors that have the same connector as the other yellow tops. The design III's are supposed to be a bit more efficient & quicker I believe.(I seriously doubt you can discern any real-world difference between either injector as the "gains" are probably very minute) I have not directly compared them side-by-side, but they might be the proper length to use on our cars as well. Here's a picture of those for reference. http://www.jessejamesjohnston.com/bimmer/injector2.jpg I plan to make myself a note and compare the two styles the next time I visit a junkyard. EDIT: I keep thinking of more stuff to add. Some of these injectors are actually more "orange top" than yellow. There are color variations around the mid 90's and also other colors with the same flow rates in the later years. If you plan on getting any from a junkyard, let me know and I'll discuss some of the other colors I know about. For anyone reading this planning on grabbing junkyard injectors, I would have them cleaned and flow tested before installing them. That way you know exactly what condition they're in and don't have to potentially troubleshoot a new problem related to the junkyard injectors you just installed. Crazy K
are we saying that 19lb rated ford injectors(which flow higher at the GM PSI rating around 21psi), same as TGP owners swap to, are also acceptable replacements for 3.4 dohc injectors? By size, I'm saying they're fine to run. 1tinindian or Ken, could one of you post a picture of the tip/pintle(where it sprays into the engine) of the DOHC injectors? I'm curious to see if they look any different in comparison to the standard rochester injectors.

Brandon72
I pulled my fuel rail + injectors to put in a new fpr (couldn't get a good seal) and noticed all my injectors are cracked similar to that pic. You mean it's time for new ones on my 212,000 mile GP? No fuel leakage yet, but I certainly hate to wait for one.

Addicted To Boost
are the Ford 5.0 yellowtops replacement injectors for the a 1996 3100 v6? No they are not. Yellowtops are higher flow injectors than 3100 injectors.
