supertrick_05 Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Has anyone attempted to put LED bulbs in to replace the halogen bulbs in the gauges and dash? Just wondering...I did it in my '05 Neon and it looked SOOOO much better! I'd like to do a red LED (just so they're brighter...some lights look "pink"). Quote
Addicted to eaton Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 its been done. bob, formerly 1loudcutty, did it. Quote
Garrett Powered Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 I love the way my dash looks too much. If I was doing something completely unique and so highly modified that I needed to mess with something like this, it would have to be equipped with a turbocharged big block. Quote
RobertISaar Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 it would have to be equipped with a turbocharged big block. oh, and i like the 95MC cluster the way it is. i already end up dimming it a bit when it gets dark enough out. LEDs would just make it that much worse. Quote
BXX Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 The LEDS wont give you an even light very well. It will be very splotchy. I have an idea to overcome this, but never put it into practice as its the last thing I am worried aboot doing to my car. Quote

[/quote'] Ive done it as well and the easiest way to make the LEDs less splotchy is too sand the head of the LEDs down to flat so the light output is more spread out then direct. It does not fix the problem entirely, but does improve it. I plan on doing a few LEDs in select places on the interior now, but not all out. Quote
supertrick_05 Posted December 24, 2009 Author Report Posted December 24, 2009 I'm guessing the bulbs are 194's? Here's the bulbs I had in the Neon's dash a while back: This is how they looked: These bulbs were blotchy as all hell! I hated them! Finally I got these And this is how it looked: I may try these out again in the Grand Prix, but red...if they don't look good, then oh well. Quote

Or you can just buy wide angle and/ or diffused ones like i did for the same price and avoid having to sand 'em. Granted these aren't in the dash, but they're the type of LED's I'm referring to (Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page.) http://www.w-body.com/forum/index.php?topic=50133.5145 Quote

I paid $10 for 100 of them, so basically $.01 each. Quote
RobertISaar Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 $10 for 100 is $.10... still a good deal. Quote

Sorry I dont have any pics available right now. Quote

I may have to try this now after seeing that last pic. that would actually be easier than I had imagined if all you do is open it up and swap out bulbs. Quote
supertrick_05 Posted December 25, 2009 Author Report Posted December 25, 2009 Yup, I'll have to look into that more, but thats how it was in the Neon, and I know that's all it was in the '90 Cavalier Z24 I had. Just un-screw the factory bulb and replace it with the aftermarket LED bulb. Quote
