GPX Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 This is an extension of my FE1/FE3 thread from a couple weeks back. I am in possession of a pair of higher rate (CJK) front springs from a 3.4 car. Although my '96 Cutlass has an FE1 suspension, it has lower FE3 rate (FUX) coils. How much more does the DOHC weigh than my 3400 LA1? And how much is that difference really going to make toward changing the ride height and harshness of the ride if I go to the stiffer springs? So far I have two differing opinions. What's yours? Quote
White93z34 Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Like I said before, when I did my 5 speed swap I lost several hundred pounds off the front end of the car, I am still using the springs that came with the car, no noticeable difference in ride height or ride quality. From what I understand factory MT cars had the same springs (at least z34s). So the negligible difference between 3x00+automatic and 3.4DOHC automatic weights should have zero affect on ride height or quality of ride, well aside of the obvious differences of FE3 springs to FE1 springs. Crazy K Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 do you really need another thread??? I will have the data in front of me soon that I was going to write-up. Quote
GPX Posted December 12, 2009 Author Report Posted December 12, 2009 do you really need another thread??? I was concerned that it was just you and Chris and me who were looking at the thread and I wanted at least a 3rd opinion or experience with the changeover and I didn't think a thread titled "Do I have an FE1..." was going to bring an answer to that question. Although so far, it seems like it's still just you and me and Chris! Plus the forum seems a little dead since it got cold, so I thought it would hurt to start another thread. It's not like they cost money. Quote
GPX Posted December 12, 2009 Author Report Posted December 12, 2009 I will have the data in front of me soon that I was going to write-up. Please do. I think that information will be more appropriate in this thread anyway as it says "spring rates and engines weights" (I love how that rhymes) in the title. Quote
