jjs316
This a basic and easy mod to accomplish. The stock maf sensor has a honey comb "shield" in the front of the sensor, You can VERY CAREFULLY remove this shield and notice a nice improvement in power. Found that one a page about performance mods for the 3.4s...Does this actually work? and where exactly is the MAF sensor?
gmrulz4u
Does your 3.4L engine even HAVE a MAF(Mass Air Flow) Sensor?? I thought it used a MAP(Manifold Absolute Pressure) Sensor instead??
hazmatic
i would like to kno this to for my 2.8l
timg
Only the 94-97 3.4 DOHC engines have MAF sensors. The earlier ones don't. Not sure about the 3.1's and 3100's. The MAF sensor mod is not worth it in my mind. Any gain you get is offset by a slightly lumpier idle and more erratic incoming air signal. topless94style
i did it earlier today i didnt notice anything at all. In power or in idle.
topless94style
Well i lied i drove it on the highway and noticed somewhat of a better high end. you could say its noticable but smaller gain than a K&N drop in.
hazmatic
has neone else tried this i dont wnna do it n be fucked but i see the honeycomp thing as a restriction
topless94style
so far i havent noticed any kind of problem with my car. I cut mine out but i thing if you stick a screwdriver or other long device in through the intake manifold side of it it should pop out. i only cut a little ways around then did that and it popped out so maybe it pops back in? john99gtp
lol. dont know where this sensor is, but got a story dealing with one. Cleaned out my airbox the other day, and unplugged the IAT sensor, i believe, the one thats behind the box. drove 3 miles, SES came on. im like, wtf i did notice that my car had some horrible acceleration, then i remember about that sensor. im such a newb sorry, but i thought it was funny at the time. hazmatic
how did u drill holes in ur airbox n did u see ne gains im just curios cuz i might put in my stock airbox for the winter time with a k&n drop in n the holes in the box
john99gtp
depends on how many holes, and what size. the more the merrier in my opinion gives it a nice growl. just took a drill and drilled careful, look underneath for anything, my ac compressor (i think) was underneath mine. It was something for the ac, i dunno. John
hazmatic
my box aint even in right now so i can just drill it on my kitchen table

topless94style
i had the wholes, but said screw them and cut out the bottom and half the battery side of the box. Much louder and im sure a better power increas.
timg
I guess I should post that yes, I removed mine a long time ago. No, I never did notice any gain. Tim
cutsup1996
thats the first thing i did with my cutty when i got it, i DID notice a difference. as long as your whole air intake system is secure and a good filter is on don't worry about those sensors inside getting damaged. I saw that hint in a corvette magazine 4 yrs ago. they got 5 more hp but it was a corvette, but hey if it helps that motor it helps any. just another restriction in the airway of course if its out it will help somewhat. i did the airbox drilling too but then just got the rsm air
