Exhaust questions

I'm thinking about modding my exhaust a bit(probably just some glasspacks, the thing is too damn quiet for my taste)

Does anyone know what the stock piping diameter is for a 99 Z34? (3.8L)

I think its 2 and a quarter but I just want to make sure.

2.5 before the cat, 2.25 to the Y and 2 to the mufflers

i thought that was the first gen recipe. meh, my memory sucks.

anyhoo, my old GT had a downpipe and aftermarket resonator. sounded a lil throatier than stock, and not raspy.

What if I like wet farts? Alright guys. I'll save my cash.

UNLESS

some holy W-body guru has a suggestion

Well that is a personal issue for you. If you keep the mufflers stock but upgrade the downpipe and cat you will notice a difference in power and sound.

Im sorry but, how many people have tried glass packs? i have two glass packs on my car (i think 14 inch each) and it has to be the best set up for the 3800s! this id full stock exhaust with glass packs in place of mufflers! please put glass packs on it! it will sound fucking amazing!, no rasp what so ever!

See that sounds good!!! also if you search on youtube Cully put magnaflows on his old z34 which sounded very similar. its not that raspy. its raspy when you do a resonator delete.

I understand that what sounds good is subjective, but..

Glasspacks have no place on the 3800. They sound like shit and the engine is best kept quiet. Without a doubt, the 3800 has one of the worst exhaust notes to ever burble it's way out of a V6. There's a reason why I've kept the stock GP exhaust on my Regal. The only thing I ever heard that sounded okay was on some guy's car in our local ClubGP chapter way back in the day. He had a huge resonator after the cat and two Borla somethingoranother mufflers that cost way too much.

i know we're talking 3800's here and i may not be of much help but on my dohc i just got 2 cheap cherrybomb turbos and left everything else stock (cat, resonater, and y pipe)...and it sounds awesome! deep burble at idle and awesome sound when you get on it...and no rasp what so ever!

Glasspacks are shitty on any FWD motor. Or anything else to be honest.

3800's are notorious for sounding just plain ODD with exhaust mods, let alone glasspacks. You can't get a good audible opinion from a video, but I've heard them in person and it's beyond horrific.

So, for the the sake of everyone's sanity on this forum, DO NOT GET GLASSPACKS.
