frank b
My 97 lumina, 3.1 with overdrive tranny, hesitates to go into gear from park, or drive to reverse, etc. Just a second or so but is this a sign of things to come? I've been good on replacing the fluid and filter, it doesn't leak either. I replaced the vacuum modulator a while back for other reasons and it made a huge improvement with the shifts! Stayed in gear longer and firmer shifts. It is adjustable but I didn't play with it. Would adjusting the modulator make a difference with it going into gear? Thanks
hotrodolds
No. The trans is worn. My '99 Lumina did this similiar thing, and we just replaced it.
1990lumina
Check to make sure the transmission fluid level is correct. If it is still slow it's just worn - moreso the pump probably isn't building pressure fast enough. If you just want to drive it for a while onger and not have to put a transmission in it throw a botte of Lucas in it. It'll thicken things up enough and should help for awhile. frank b
Thanks for the replies. There's no doubt it's worn, the car has 195000 miles on it. The level is good, always has been since I've had the car.
