Is this my Fuel Pressure Regulator? Is it my Vacuum? How do I remove it?

I was wondering if this was the Fuel Pressure Regulator? I , in a previous topic, was recommended to replace my Fuel Pressure Regulator. I don't know where it is or how to get it off.

 

I have some picture of what I think is the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Am I right?

That would be the Vacuum modulator for the Transmission. It's been a while since I've been under the hood of a 3.1, but it should be visible through the opening under the plenum near the throttle body. There should be 3 vacuum lines coming off of the Throttle body, and one will run just under the plenum and connect to it. It will be on the fuel rail. Hopefully you can figure that out from my vague description :lol:

So, I pulled out the part in question and oily liquid came out. That didn't seem right to me, so I kept shaking the module to get the rest of the oily liquid out. I thought it was a mixture of gas and oil. But, not that this part has been properly identified as a Transmission Vacuum Modulator, I know that the liquid was transmission fluid. I was wondering why the liquid was reddish!

But, there was a lot of fluid that came out of the Module. Is this normal? See the picture below(that's a whole piece of paper towel that is soaked by how much transmission fluid came out).

I think there is something wrong because I keep getting transmission fluid in my hose...

These things are pretty cheap, so I am going to buy a new one tomorrow, but the question still stands; Is it normal to have that much transmission fluid in there?

No, that is not normal. I pulled mine out for the hell of it one time, and other then a slight residue on the plunger part, there was no oil. When the modulator goes bad, it can start sucking fluid up through the vacuum and actually start burning it through the engine. I would be willing to put money on the transmission shifting kind of hard and rough, especially when it downshifts into first.

 

And yes... the fluid does look dirty...but not too bad. You should be fine just doing a pan drop/filter change.

 

The plus side...ATF kind of works like seafoam...so any trans fluid being burned should have done some top end cleaning :lol:

I did find my Vacuum (the one for the Fuel). The old Fuel Vacuum was looking pretty old and beat up. And I went ahead and replaced both with parts from the Junk Yard. I am not sure that the Transmission Vacuum needed to be replaced. And I don't know if it made a difference because I replaced the Fuel Vacuum at the same time. Oh, well.

 

It works now. I had to replace a few other things, but it works now. Thanks guys.
