88red4cyl
run some seafoam through the brake booster as well. I always thought you weren't supposed to run seafoam through boosted motors like that... I don't think I've ever seen it in print, but its what I've always heard... Has anyone else heard this? 88red4cyl
I'd never researched it before, it's just what I'd heard... I just searched around on google, and apparently seafoam says its fine to use with superchargers...
MonteCarloChick
Seafoam isn't going to yield high results in the tank.. it's made for the engine. Don't waste it. I'm doing seafoam, plugs and wires tomorrow. It's idling rough again.
3pt1lumina
I forgot about the fuel and air filters...the more you keep up on them the more efficient the car will run.
mfewtrail
I guess these transmissions take almost 8 quarts of fluid?? Check the level often when adding so you don't overfill it. If you don't want to mess w/ the plugs for a long time and aren't modding the car, go with whatever the stock plugs were(they're platinum AC Delco or NGK's from the factory). AL
When I did a tranny fluid and filter change on my car last month, it took 8 quarts of fluid
ZeeQuick
Drained the tranny, and yes, it did take pretty much all of 8 quarts. Glad I decided to do the spark plugs, the front three plugs had virtually no tip left on them, back ones weren't as bad....but damn. Threw in some NGK platinums. Car seems to shift smoother with the new fluid that's for sure. Looks like it was the factory gasket/filter too.....
mfewtrail
Looks like it was the factory gasket/filter too..... The factory gasket is reusable and is pretty much the best gasket you can use for these pans...
carkhz316
^x2, if its that factory rigid but coated in rubber kind, reuse it. It's designed to be reused
RobertISaar
my factory one started to leak after 10 years... WIX one was good though, think it was cork?
Imp558
X2 on cleaning the MAF and throttle body, that's a great idea especially considering how cheap it is. Also on a 3800 there is a coolant elbow that goes into the front of the tensioner housing, may want to check it doesn't have any cracks in it. Also maybe test or replace the ECT and IAT. 1990lumina
my factory one started to leak after 10 years... WIX one was good though, think it was cork? Surprised it isn't leaking yet then lol. Cork ones always leak because the cork compresses and the bolts are no longer torqued properly = leaky. RobertISaar
seems to holding up pretty well, not even any drips coming off of the bolts... i actually haven't needed to add ANY tranny fluid since the filter was done... and that was ...... almost 5 years and 50K miles ago
