88red4cyl Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Buck, could you snap a pic or two of the coolant crossover pipe when you get down far enough? Quote
Night Fury Posted January 12, 2010 Author Report Posted January 12, 2010 Got a couple other things off, as well as the front valve cover. Buck, could you snap a pic or two of the coolant crossover pipe when you get down far enough? The huge metal thing that has a couple hoses coming off of it up front, the filler neck, has a couple of pulleys, and wraps clear around the back side that I can't for the life of me get off? Coolant goes through it... Anyways, that's where I'm at, stopping for the night. Quote
BXX Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 I should also mention I'm officially at the "What the hell did I just get myself into" stage. Whats so hard aboot it?? Just head gaskets. Quote

Night Fury Posted January 12, 2010 Author Report Posted January 12, 2010 And why wouldn't those just be called the heater core tubes? That's all they are. Quote

Night Fury Posted January 12, 2010 Author Report Posted January 12, 2010 Enjoy my crudely edited pic. Coolant DOES flow through this 'thing' Quote
88red4cyl Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 I think that might be it Buck, but I'm not 100% sure... I can't find a pic online anywhere of what it actually looks like... So does that have to come off to get the heads off? Is there a gasket for it in the head gasket kit? I am just wondering if the crossover gasket has to be changed when head gaskets are done or not... Well, not only does part of it wrap around the rear valve cover to make those bolts inaccessible, but it bolts into the heads, AND generally looks like a PITA. So yeah it needs to come off. As far as gaskets for it, I have no fucking idea what they're going to look like, so I guess I'll just have to figure it out tomorrow. Fun times! I can't believe I'm doing HEAD GASKETS!!! Quote
Night Fury Posted January 14, 2010 Author Report Posted January 14, 2010 Okiedokie. I got the service manual installed so now I know what to do. The 'thing' in question is indeed the crossover, and it has 8 freaking bolts, and some are under the pulleys that are on it. Progress resumes tomorrow!!! Quote
Night Fury Posted January 14, 2010 Author Report Posted January 14, 2010 Crossover off, coolant was leaking from one of the bolt holes. That makes THREE places coolant was leaking out of this car. Quote

Was it on the back side where you couldn't see? I can smell coolant over on that side of the motor, but I can't see anything... Was it leaking anything on the ground prior to this as well? Quote

Yes it was on the back. I doubt it was leaving anything on the ground. She parks on the street anyways, so who knows. Lower intake is now off.... You can tell she never floors this car, there is some decent build-up in the lower intake and heads as well. Quote
Night Fury Posted January 14, 2010 Author Report Posted January 14, 2010 I also have pictures of the crossover and crossover gaskets, I'll post them up later. Quote
