scotty
ok...im lost. i dont know much about cars but im trying. i dont have much money so this sunday i finally got sick of the catalytic coverter insides rattling on my 88 cutty, so i took the 2 bolts with springs out from the piece that connects to the manifold and cut it at the the 2nd weld on the 91 cutty the weld after the converter. and did same on 88, then put 91 converter on the 88. now today the car has no power, and idling is rough. when in park theres times where it seems fine then it almost sounds like theres something clogging the exhaust. any ideas on what i boogered up? cutsup1996
just go to a muffler shop and get a cheap or oem cat and have them replace it, it won't be that expensive and it should fix it right, any dash lights coming on? scotty
no lights, no codes. itll feel ok, then it almost feels like it has a miss to it, then idling will flucuate then almost stalls then seems better again. only thing i can think of is the other car was hit pretty hard and maybe broke something loose inside there but the 91 still ran good just was a lil bit more narrow then the rest. so i doubt thats it. the one that came off the 88 was horrible it sounded like evrything inside was in pieces. could it be its not used to being run with the back pressure? only reason i dont take it anywhere to get it fixed is i like to work on em...just most the time i havent got a clue. and only way im goin to learn is ask questions and get flamed later..lol i put alot of time in the 91 and most the stuff on there is practically new. hate to pretty much throw it away, id like to reuse what i can. since that car will hit the junkyard soon. too painful seeing it everyday knowing its now the parts car. Slade901
All those broken honey comb particles inside the catalytic converter could have gone through and now is clogging the other components of the exhaust system including the muffler. topless94style
i agree with above, but also the cat can cause idling problems. So that cat could be bad too.

scotty
ok after replacing the cat, fuel filter, plus fuel line goin from pump to filter, spark plugs and wires, my car is still ideling real rough, and after it heats up has no power. itll be fine, then its goes back and runs like ass. in the morning when i go to work its fine. my gf takes it from there back home then an 1/2 hour ride to work, itll jump around..runs good, then doesnt, she says sometimes it feels like it has the power but just isnt going?? then it feels normal out of the blue? i havent checked alternator for charging volts, but i unhooked positive terminal with car running and it stays running, but if i open my door, or turn any lights on it dies, this is deffintly new to me, i have no clue whats up? any more ideas?
