99screaminregal
Okay, spent most of the day tearing down my LQ1 to replace one very bad oil pan gasket. Followed my Haines guide only to hit a wall to pull the oil pan out. Looked all over and can't figure out why the damn thing won't just slide out. There is a "pan" welded to the frame that looks like GM just threw it there for shits and giggles that seems to be holding the passenger side up and won't let it fall. ANYBODY GOTTA IDEA?? 92 Olds Cutty 3.4l
RobertISaar
this help at all?
99screaminregal
Pretty much what I've already done. The pan flops around but won't come down. Frame is dropped and I'm thinking of jacking the engine up a little. Still trying to figure out that front mount on the frame how to unbolt it. I have one of the bolts off (from the block b/c I couldn't get a wrench on the frame bolts) and thought it was the one I needed, then found 2 more to unbolt it from the block. Thanls for the diagram though!
mra32
Would it be this: Pic courteousy of Aweb80. If so, I think thats where the engine mount sits. At least on 3100s
Crazy K
Would it be this: Pic courteousy of Aweb80. If so, I think thats where the engine mount sits. At least on 3100s negative. or... err... all gen 1 frames have that mounts, and it is used on most engines, but not the LQ1. You have not lowered the frame or raised the engine sufficiently to remove the oil pan.
Octavarium454
If you plan on keeping the LQ1 cut the thing. You don't need it for that motor, and I think that would be easier. If you plan on swapping in a 3.8 or a 3.1 then don't touch that and keep raising the motor or dropping the frame.
GOT2B GM
yeah a motor mount bolts there for other engines.
5speedz34
I would say lift the engine more......otherwise drop the subframe like GM says too.
99screaminregal
a mount you say. thas what i thought it looked like. well may just have to break out the ol' sawzall after work and cut it off. it would make life so much easier. something else though. i tried undoing the front mount but couldn't get a wrench on the bolt cuz of the ac compressor. got the one off the back corner but not the front. need some advice there. figured i'd try that. may be the prob
Crazy K
LEAVE THE MOUNT ATTACHED TO THE ENGINE, You can remove two nuts through access holes in the frame from below and you are done. DO NOT CUT YOUR FRAME!
rockfangd
wait are you saying that mount is not being used?
99screaminregal
ok so don't cut the mount plate off from the frame then. got it. now, as for the front mount. the 2 access holes in the frame i found but no bolts on the studs, could have been from being tired at that point, and temporary blindness set in. i'll look at it again.
