Regal_GS_1989 Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 I checked the obvious items like parking brake depressed, and brake fluid reservoir, but both of those checked out fine. The DRL and Auto lights also function as they should, so that would rule out the Parking brake switch as well. ABS and traction control also function as they should. The light stays on when you start the car/drive, and also stays on for a couple seconds after you turn the car off. Anyone had this happen before? Quote
RZB1992 Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 I'm having the same problem with the 99 I have. Brake light just decided to randomly come on, and as far as I know everything else is okay. Quote
RobertISaar Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 brake fluid level sensor going crazy? it's kind of rare, but it can happen... i wouldn't worry about it if it doesn't affect anything... Quote
Regal_GS_1989 Posted November 6, 2009 Author Report Posted November 6, 2009 brake fluid level sensor going crazy? it's kind of rare, but it can happen... i wouldn't worry about it if it doesn't affect anything... I'll be doing the front pads and rotors this weekend, so I'll see if anything changes after I compress the pistons and push some fluid back into the res. Otherwise, I may see if I can just disconnect the sensor. Quote
jman093 Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 Sounds like the brake fluid level switch is bad. Unplug it and see if the light goes out. If not jump the two pins in the connector together with a paperclip and see if that makes it go out. If either makes it go out, replace the switch. Quote
1990lumina Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 If you can push the float up and down for the sensor. I've seen shit get in the fluid and jam up the float on older Suzuki XL-7s before. Suck out the fluid and replace with new and keep "actuating" the float up and down till it moves freely. Quote

That's exactly what I've had to do before on a couple of cars. Quote
Regal_GS_1989 Posted November 8, 2009 Author Report Posted November 8, 2009 Well, problem solved....The brake fluid was actually low I guess I must have had a brain fart when I orignally checked the fluid level. It looked like there was enough when in fact there wasn't. Quote
RZB1992 Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 I checked in to the other Intrigue I'm working on, and I was wrong. The brake light is on, and the headlight switch does not function at all. From the original post, do the two have any connection? I thought they might since when you release the brake the lights turn on. My e-brake is off, the lights go on and stay on no matter what function, and the brake light is on. Quote
