dylan1630
1993 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1 Problem 1: Service engine light is on. It reads EGR code (32 i THINK.) I replaced the EGR valve once before and it was reading it AGAIN, so i replaced it AGAIN and it's still reading it. The engine light doesn't come on right when i start it up, it comes on while i'm driving. What is the problem here?! I have replaced the EGR valve twice, neither of them were brand new but don't you think one of them would have still been good? Problem 2: I thought my engine was missing, turns out it's the transmission shuttering. Sometimes it would shake so bad my dash would shake. We disconnected the modulator we put on about 2 or 3 months ago, and it wasn't shaking. So we took it back to autozone, and they gave us another one. We put it on and it started shuttering. So we adjusted it a few times, it's adjusted to where it shifts harder, but it doesn't shutter as bad. You barely feel it. But the fact that it's still doing it worries me. It's adjusted to where it shifts harder but it has to be or the transmission will shutter too bad. Is there anyting else i should replace to make it stop? or is my transmission going? That is the worst possible news i could get right now. Thank you for your help everyone i really appreciate it
Galaxie500XL
A couple of things to consider about your shudder: A misfire often is more noticeable in high gear, are you certain you're not actually experiencing an ignition problem? I've had a bad plug wire mimic somewhat they symptoms you describe..or even a crummy coil. Check the ground wires that attach to the bellhousing. Keep in mind, there are solenoids that control shifting of the transmission, and crummy grounds could definitely cause these symptoms. I'm already assuming you've done the usual, and done fluid/filter change to the transmission fairly recently, and checked to verify the fluid is clean and full... Best of luck! White93z34
a code 32 can be caused by excessive carbon build up in EGR passages, get some brakeclean and maybe some pipe cleaners and clear those out.
Galaxie500XL
If you've got stuff really stuck in the EGR passages, go to the sporting goods section at Wal-Mart, and get cleaning brushes for rifles or handguns..they come in several different sizes, are available as stainless (agressive) brass (less agressive) and nylon (soft) bristles. If you buy a handgun cleaning kit, you'll have a handy short handle to attach the brush to...very handy for cleaning small passages--and the brushes come in different calibers, just perfect for different sized passages. tornado_735
I was having issues with a stutter myself when I first got my GP. It would buck and kick on the freeway when I tried to accelerate in overdrive. I thought it was an issue with the torque converter. Turns out that anti torque struts (the dogbones on top of the engine) rubber bushings were shot, and were letting the engine move around too much. I got a brand new pair off of a GP in the boneyard, put them on and the stutter was gone. It might not be your problem, but it's worth checking the cheap and easy stuff first. SigEpCutlass
Check your coils for the stuttering issue. Chis is right. If you replaced the EGR multiple times, and the code keeps coming back the EGR passages are dirty/clogged.
dylan1630
Alright, I'm sorry everyone for not keeping you updated, but I wanted to mention that if i shift the car from first gear, then to second, and stay in second, it doesn't shutter. I was going up a hill, about, eh, i'll say 27-33 mph and it started shuttering while in drive. so i shifted down to second gear, and the shutter was gone. It only is there when in drive. Can anyone narrow the problem down from this?

oscar_wilde
Doesn't manually selecting gears increase line pressure? Pump not making enough pressure in normal circumstances?
Addicted to eaton
I have heard that also. But not sure if true.
