topless94style
would itbepossible to set up ram air in way like the new grand am gt's? or do you need the hood to do so? i thought maybe u could use the intake that is on there and mount that between the engine and the radiator. would this work very well? Bolt_Crank
that would just get a lot of warm air, if you put it there, plus, the fans would get i the way.... I'm not sure how you could get it to work on your car, but on a Lumina Z34, you could put the intake under the bumper, and change the grill to a normal Lumina one, to keep the cooling going.... dunno if that would work either, though.... interesting to try
topless94style
i know id have to mount it diff because of the fans, but warm will come in no matter what. I guess im just more thinking because i dont have a grill really if i some how put that setup together would it even do anything because of me not having the grill. I just got the solid plastic. if i were to say add an intake like 92turbole is making that would bring it hot air also. Which of the two would be better? im some aspect i think the ram air would if i had a grill or could get it underneath the car kinda but since i dont have a grill and if that makes a difference i think 92turboles would be better. Bolt_Crank
well, behind the rad, it's be a ram-warm air intake... but it would probably work a bit better than a normal warm air intake... but only if you have good piping... topless94style
i might have to do some research and buy some things see what i can come up with then do some testing.
Teferius
Well I highly doubt you can do this with your cutty but this is what i did with my GP. I have had this setup for about 3 months now and I can tell a difference up top. I have headlight covers for when it rains and the car washes. Havent had any problems yet. Hope this helps you, not sure if it will since you dont have the headlights like I do. Good Luck.
topless94style
Dont we have the same headlight style? i actually thought about doing that but i didnt want to remove the headlights or anything. the reason why i was curious about this is because if you go onto the pontiac website and check out the grand ams and then click on the 3400 ram air engine it shows how the air flowsinto the engine. Is there plumbin set up like the picture shows? ill get the link in a minute.

Teferius
Well I guess we do have the same type of headlights. I just wasnt sure if you had 2 seperate brackets for high/low like the GPs do. I think the plenum is very similarly setup like the GA's. The way I have mine setup is where it only has one bend in the piping where as if you do a fenderwell intake you will have 2 bends, which I figured created more resistance or whatever. I figured my setup was the best for direct airflow. And yes I would not recommend you do this setup unless you dont care about brights and you have a set of headlight covers to protect your filter in rain. On your car you may be able to make a setup similar to mine without removing one of the lights. I have a 7 inch cone filter... if I had a 6 inch cone filter I doubt I would have had to remove my light. But I wanted to either way for the ram air affect. topless94style
you got any more pics of the intake piping going to the tb on your car? can you give me the details on how you did it and the materials required? i might have to check yours out it seems most logical without the bends. I also did some looking around under my hood and i dont have enough room upfront i dont think to set up the GA ram air. The only other option i think would be to go down to the bottom of the bumper but i would have to move the ac condensor so i can keep the same size piping. But again this would add for more curves in the intake. I got some work to do but i like tryin to figure this stuff out.
Teferius
Well when I did this I was pretty broke so I couldnt get any custom bent piping. So as of right now all I have is the stock tube and then I put a strait 3" pipe on the end of that. When ever I get a day off work I want to go up to my muffler shop and have them bend a piece of pipe that way it looks smoother. If I do that I will rap it in some heat insulation to keep it cooler. I had to move the battery as far back as it would go. It was maybe a total of an inch I moved it back. Then there is the little oval whole where the snorkel for the airbox goes through right between your radiator and battery. Well I had to make that a little bigger, which wasnt hard at all. I had to remove my headlight, it was my driving light so I had to switch the brights with the normal headlights. That is easy too. You just take out the casement for the driving headlight and swap it into the bracket for the bright headlights. I did that on both sides, thats why my driving lights are closer together now in that last pic I posted. There really isnt much more I did but put the pipe in and the filter.
