cutsup1996
wondering what is the max safest bore a 3100 can be bored out to.
fleetwoodguy79
Well this was the info I got for my 3.4 block, 3.1 and 3.4 are pretty much the same block... I wouldn't go over 2mm on the bore. Since the block isn't too big anyway you more than likely will run into problems keeping the motor cool. mfewtrail
go here http://www.60degreev6.com/members/gpxss/ and then to the "rebuild" tab, the 3.1(MPFI) has the same bore/stroke as the 3100(SFI) so I would imagine the same applies for it and the max safe bore would be .060'' although a great deal of people have told me that it's not worth going that far over so that the block will still be useable if something were to happen and because not much is gained in going .060'' over. You would be going from ~192ci to ~198ci if I'm calculating right w/ a .060'' overbore, someone correct me if I'm wrong please! EDIT: btw, the 192ci is coming from doing the calculation for cubic inches and rounding up, I've seen some places that round up, and some that do not so I'm not sure what the deal is on that.
