RobertISaar Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 whats the easiest/quickest way to tell if your W has EVO or not? Quote
RobertISaar Posted October 11, 2009 Author Report Posted October 11, 2009 nevermind, i modified my ABS ADS and found that i DON'T have EVO.... my steering is just awesome. also found a place for it in my driver side fusebox... Quote
RobertISaar Posted October 11, 2009 Author Report Posted October 11, 2009 ^not quite the EVO i was refering to, but it would almost fit under the hood of the MC... Quote
RobertISaar Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 electronic variable orifice, also know as variable assist power steering... makes turning at low speeds easy, then the faster you go the more the orifice restricts, making more effort required to turn the wheel. stability thing from what i can tell... GOT2B GM Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 you mean magnasteer or whatever its called? Quote
RobertISaar Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 you mean magnasteer or whatever its called? close, this is the predecessor to it, i think magnasteer was 1997? Quote
BXX Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 The proper term for it is Variable Effort Steering.. And IIRC only LQ1s got it offered.. Quote
Crazy K Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 The proper term for it is Variable Effort Steering.. And IIRC only LQ1s got it offered.. INCORRECT! the LQ1 part car I chopped up had it. it now resides in my 95 sedan. it is PIMP... but it is also a bonafide 2.25 turn ratio rack (LQ1 cars could have had it, but only with the NV7 option)... easy and FAST steering all the time! cutlassdude96 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 my car has it and the RPO code for it is NV7 Quote
RobertISaar Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 my car has it and the RPO code for it is NV7 correct: NV7 STEERING, POWER, VARIABLE EFFORT so thats a 96 3100 car that has it... i've seen a 95 GTP thats had it as well... Quote
Crazy K Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Remember, any 95+ car with ABs could have it. that is what the phantom read plug near the alternator is for on the 3100. Also, at the base of the column there is another connector, which is for a sensor that detects the steering wheel turning. I love my magnasteer. Quote

CSI_MuNkY Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 My 95 GTP has it. The column I got out of a 94 GTP did not have the connector for it. Jamie Quote

5speedz34 Posted December 3, 2009 Report Posted December 3, 2009 It's known as Magnasteer at least in the Cutlass brochure I have. With that said. I've only seen it on a 95 3.4 cars. I disagree with Ken on both the 2.25 ratio and the magnasteer being offered on other model years. I've also never seen it in a Lumina/MC. Quote

I disagree with Ken on both the 2.25 ratio and the magnasteer being offered on other model years. I've also never seen it in a Lumina/MC. Drive my car! It is a bonafide obd1.5 and up rack with 2.25 ratio rack. How can you tell? No pressure sensor, and lock to lock is 2.25 turns. Bob tested it. The parts catalog does NOT list the steering ratios of the NV7 racks, presumably because there was only one NV7 rack.... I have not seen another NV7 car in the yards as of recent, so I have not been able to analyze another rack. Can ANYONE ELSE count the number of turns lock to lock on their own NV7 equipped car for us??? Quote
BXX Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Ive been in Kens car.. Sure as hell, its 2.25 turns with the ease of a 3.00 turn rack. Quote
