Twenty
I know there have been similar topics before, but still read on. I'm always asked from others something along the lines of 'Why do you love that car so much?'. It seems that a lot of people I know can't understand what's so appealing about a 17-year old Pontiac sedan. Do any of you ever get asked the same about your W-bodies? I try to explain that it's for a number of reasons; I grew up with the car, it's rare, I'm familiar with it, and so on, but it doesn't work. Some figure that modifiying it is a waste of money. I've replied to that explaining that I will be buying a 'new' car after university and it won't be a GM at all (Heck, it won't even be left hand drive) and that the GP will remain as a daily, but they still see it as almost foolish to put even small money in to it. Does anyone else experience the same? People wondering why you want a W-body or wondering why you'd even spend money on one? What do you say to that? GOT2B GM
Decently powerful, roomy, handle good, parts are cheap, easy to work on, availability of parts is great. Lots of part interchangeability. A lot of W's look nice and sporty, and are decently equipped option wise. Not to mention they are reliable and cheap. jake91
when i bought my car it was just because it was a convertible and i wanted a car. i didnt even like it that much, but once i got it all cleaned up and spent some time with it and drove it i grew to love it, and now i wouldnt trade it for anything well unless someone would give me 10k for it LOL

hotrodolds
The W Chassis is a solid chassis. The cars built on them are good. Some of the nameplates don't belong, but that is neither here nor there. I like the W Chassis cars.
Addicted to eaton
Beacuse i love them, There fast (GTP) and i love the sound they make. Everyone thinks Mustangs, Camaro's are fast. But not many people expect it from a grand prix
Radnsmash
I love my car because its a great platform and a reliable engine and drivetrain. x2, I like the "stealth bomber" kind of look the body has. FWD is good for the winters we get around here, a very reputable V6, not half bad on gas when you drive civilized, parts are cheap and plentiful, etc... EviLette
As others have mentioned... the powertrains/drivetrains are reliable, and easy to find parts for if they are needed. So many items on these motors, the 1st gens and up, are found on multiple cars across multiple platforms... and parts are relatively cheap. The cars are well built, so what if my car doesn't have airbags, and has seat belts on the door pillars.. which does bother me a bit, but oh well. She was still built out of steel to withstand a crash, and I feel safe in this car. I don't feel crowded, nor do I feel lost and swimming in a vehicle that's way too big to comfortably navigate, either inside of or while driving. She handles well, despite a less-than-impressive turning radius. She looks good, she smells good... she is good. People talk shit on my "old car" and I get violent. They get one warning about slamming the doors, and one free demonstration of how easily the doors on my "old car" shut. Beyond that, it's their ass. Precious is unique, daring, classy, bold, and understated. The car matches my personality, and I match the car's ego. We work hand-in-hand, like a team. I never truly understood the bond between a man and his machine until I got this car. I still don't quite understand, unless of course we are using the term "man" rather loosely. Haha, that still doesn't sound very good. Point is, we love our W-Bodies. Maybe because we needed a cheap car to get from point a to b, that we just couldn't kill.. maybe we got the car coming out of a craptastic situation, and the car was our ticket to freedom. Maybe it was a hard-earned and maintained gift from the parents to teach you to aspire for more and work hard for what you have... Maybe it was a car that you'd drooled over for years... the lines, the color scheme, forget the DOHC engine because the rest of the car is worth the trouble... Whatever reason... (And yes, each of those statements in the previous paragraph are stories from members here...) Our cars are great. Frustrating at times, when we realize how stupid GM was in going about designing... but everything has its flaw. Think of it this way: Children are a parent's own little piece of heaven and hell, all wrapped up in one package, right? I think a lot of us feel the same way about our cars. They can be a royal pain in the ass, but they can be a blessing in disguise. My car is on her third drivetrain, and she's never left me stranded...for long. LOL. bodeen2007
i get asked all the time why i don't go out and buy a new car . being a mechanic and seeing how unreliable newer cars i would never sell any of my w-bodys sure they need work but i love to fix things . I don't care what other people think i love my lumina. sure it needs work like paint and it still needs a z34 front bumper but it's a cheap project car that is good on gas and easy to fix . and the parts are ridiculously cheap . Twenty
*Sigh* Even after 3 hours of work doing a mini-wire tuck there are still no positive comments. I also mentioned that I thought the new Toyota FT86 concept was gorgeous and the reply was "And you also think a GP is too". This is just more motivation to prove that a GP can become something. I figure that if I can ever get a supercharged 3.8 dropped in I'll have something they'll be impressed by.
RobertISaar
L67 in a GP is nothing new.... drop a northstar in it for massive gawking.
Twenty
L67 in a GP is nothing new.... drop a northstar in it for massive gawking. My requirements for any engine swap: 1. Must have a supercharger. 2. Must have a loud supercharger if possible. So a Northstar would be a candidate.
RobertISaar
centrifugal or roots only? BTW: good luck getting it in there. 98montels is the only person i can think of that might be able to help...
Twenty
centrifugal or roots only? BTW: good luck getting it in there. 98montels is the only person i can think of that might be able to help... No preference as of yet. Just supercharged, I'm bored of naturally aspirated. Not for a while anyways. Don't have the time, skills, or money to swap an engine yet.
RobertISaar
Not for a while anyways. Don't have the time, skills, or money to swap an engine yet. and with something like a NS, you will need LOTS of all three... i've decided if i want a NS, i'm just going to get a caddy. monte is getting a 3900, much less of a PITA.
